I have Severe Bronchitis. My Dr gave me Tyl w/codeine for fever and coughing, plus a prednisone shot & pills, an antibiotic. Is Tyl #4 used for colds?
Its for your PAIN: Tylenol (acetaminophen) #4 is an Opiate Analgesic like Vicodin Used for PAIN . it contains 60mg of codeine and 300mg of Tylenol (acetaminophen). Codeine metabolizes into morphine (1/10th of the dose) so its about 6mg of oral morphine per does with Tylenol (acetaminophen) for the added pain relief. I hv bronchiti I am on antibiotic & prednisone since wed. I still wheezing & cough occastionaly. Is ok 2 c 3yr old who just hd bronchitis 2 wk ago?
Yes: Although bronchitis is generally caused by a virus and therefore not helped by antibiotics, you should be fine. The reason antibiotics are sometimes prescribed is that as we get older, we are at increased risk for secondary infections, like pneumonia. Since the 3 year old just had bronchitis, his/her immune system should be in full gear. Have fun! ...Read more
Bronchitis & asthma on prednisne antibiotic & neb peak flow from 600 to 390 after week back to 500. Should i see pulmonologist not pcp for asthma?
Caution: Steroids are effective medications at indiscriminately reducing inflammation. However, they have a number of potential side effects such as elevation of blood pressure/blood sugar, temporary emotional changes, gastritis and idiopathic bone necrosis. Additionally they actually suppress the natural immune system. Antibiotics, fluids, mucus thinners usually suffice unless severe airway swelling. ...Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers

I agree: It is possible that you have had multiple consecutive viral infections in which case zithromax will have no effect whatsoever on the infection. If it is viral bronchitis however, prednisone usually provides some relief. Perhaps you have the cough due to allergies, undiagnosed asthma or acid reflux. I would see your PCP for work up. ...Read more
How long does it take for bronchitis to heal? Been on antibiotics 48 hrs plus 20 mg prednisone, plus nebulizer 3-4 hrs not better. Coughing green stuf
TIme to see Dr again: If not better after 48 hours, a reassessment is a good idea. Sometimes a different medication is needed. Sometimes bronchitis or pneumonia doesn't get better even under treatment, and more aggressive treatment is needed, or occasionally hospitalization. Thus, a recheck by the doctor can help decide the next step. ...Read more

Prednisone: Can cause a lot of side effects, especially at higher doses. For some, 60 mg at one time can cause feelings of nervousness, mood swings, insomnia etc, as well as elevations in blood sugar and blood pressure. If you are experiencing these, you could try splitting the dose in half and take it twice per day, or if that is still causing side effects, you may need to take a lower dose.Talk to your Dr. ...Read more
