In fact new research is showing that your risk of fracture increases almost 400% after one oral dosepack of steroids. You are better off getting an epidural steroid injection instead. What is the treatment for prednisolone overdose?

Little problems....: I routinely use the equivalent of 1200mg in one dose for sle flares and/or vasculitis, when I use 200mg of IV Dexamethasone given 3x per week. Why can't people stay on prednisolone for ever?

Steroid side effects: Actually, some people have to take steroids lifelong. Prednisolone is a hormone in the cortisone family, and cortisone is required for life. If the adrenal gland stops producing it, as it does in addison's disease, the patient must take something similar. For normal people, steroids have adverse effects, so it is best to take them for short periods. Longer use can turn off adrenal production too. ...Read more
