My 12 yr. Old son falls asleep doing schoolwork, homework, and chores; but is alert when watching t.V. Or playing video games, is this adhd?

Maybe: Tv and video games are geared for a 4 second attention span. Most 2 year olds have longer attention spans than that. The 4 second attention span keeps your son alert via a neural reflex. It also lowers his attention span for the real world. Research states of those who watch 1 hour a day 9% will lower their attention span to add levels. 2 hours lowers 18% and 3 hrs 27%. Limit both to 45 min/day. ...Read more

Yes: Online addictions, whether for action games, online porn, chatrooms or many other activities can be serious and damaging to quality of life. Many addiction programs have now started special programs for those with these kinds of problems (called 'process' addictions). They sometimes reflect another underlying psychiatric problem, sometimes not. See an addiction specialist (aaap.Org or asam.Org). ...Read more

Occupational therapy for 12 year old with nvld. Very intelligent adult size boy who memorizes rather than writing due to difficulty writing?

May not help much: Occupational therapy can help people with fine motor control problems such as the ability to write, type, or otherwise use the hands, wrists, arms. If a child's brain is different, causing him difficulty in dealing with ideas, words, phrases, sentences, etc..., then it is not a motor skill problem, and may not benefit much from o.T. It may be worth a brief try, to see if there is improvement. ...Read more

I wouldn't.: At age 25, with a asthma free history of 10 years, i agree with you prior diagnosis of "childhood asthma." as is often the case, you appear to have outgrown the condition. Since you employment situation appears to be sedentary, this prior medical history has no bearing on you being employed. Would it be more beneficial to continue mainstreaming my 8 year old child diagnosed w hfa w adhd, gdd/asperger vs placing her in a special ED school?

Ask school: The best think for your child is for you to team up with his teachers and school to get their opinion as to how he is doing. The school district is required by law to evaluate him to see if he needs special help if he has a confirmed medical diagnosis that may get in the way of his education. Sometimes you have to push the school to do it but collaborating is always best. Ask if he needs an iep. ...Read more

OK here goes: Posterior Reversible Encephalopathy Syndrome is usually caused by uncontrolled blood pressure, and does stabilize once pressure is controlled. Do not worry: If all your concern is an elevated SGPT that is normal now, there is no cause for concern. For good health - Have a diet rich in fresh vegetables, fruits, whole grains, milk and milk products, nuts, beans, legumes, lentils and small amounts of lean meats. Avoid saturated fats. Drink enough water daily, so that your urine is mostly colorless. Exercise at least 150 minutes/week and increase the intensity of exercise gradually.
