Pre Period Spotting
Is there a difference in the appearance between implantation bleeding, and regular pre-period spotting?
Likely breakthrough: Implantation bleeding is largely an internet myth. If - a big if - you actually get implantation bleed it would be very light and about 6-7 days after ovulation, or about a week before your expected period. So, i wouldn't worry - but spotting before a period does not make it more likely you are pregnant, sorry. Good wishes. ...Read more
I noticed faint pink spotting pre-period month 4 of new Birth control pill, then slight brown spot 4 days post period month 6. Should I change pills?
Breakthrough bleed: Breakthrough bleeding (bleeding at the wrong time) is very common on birth control. It happens in about 1/3 of users. Its no big deal and usually self corrects over time. If you are not satisfied or it continues to happen then consider using a different birth control method. It is a common side effect and does not mean something is wrong or that the pill is not working. ...Read more
Period on sept 15-19 except i had spotting the 20-21 which isnt normal for me. Had unprotected sex twice on 9/23 Plan B same day. Spotting 10/6-pres?
Typical with Plan B: Plan b essentially disrupts the normal menstrual cycle by blocking or delaying ovulation. That it is how it works and why it is so different than a medical abortion. Irregular bleeding after taking Plan B is not rare. Always check a pregnancy test after using Plan B and see a doctor to start a better form of birth control. ...Read more
Do I have implantation bleeding because i'm spotting 5 days before period. I didn't have sex this month though. Is the dark brown spotting pre period?
Breakthrough: It's probably breakthrough bleeding, can't say for sure 'why' over the internet. 'implantation bleeding' is all the rage online now, but it's over-rated in importance. It's not consistent and is usually not 'implantation' but breakthrough bleeding. A pregnancy test in a few days will confirm one way or another. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

For pregnancy?: A doctor can check to see if there is any medical issue if a woman has mild menstrual-related symptoms. Many women have some variation of their periods or a missed period on occasion. Some women feel normal after a few days, but others do have bothersome symptoms and follow-up with their doctors. One cause may be hormonal fluctations. Generally not: Spotting is usually not associated with the normal menstrual period (menses). However some menses can be light and present like spotting. If you are generally regular with your menses and the "spotting" is occurring at a different time period then it's probably not your menstrual period. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Depends: In some people it can. If the woman has a condition and does not produce much estrogen then spotting would be a period. People on continuous cycling of oral contraceptive who go off can have light to spotting for a period. The use of Progesterone can inhibit the growth of the uterine lining so all you might get is spotting. I'm probably leaving others out, out of room too! ...Read more
