It is fine to use once in a while for occasional constipation, but chronic use can cause your colon to become dependent on the chemical to move at all. 35/m.Using sodium picosulfate from 5years.Have i got atonic colon due to overuse.Lactulose, fruits, prunes, fiber no good.Ct, colonoscopy, blood tests ok.

Add exercise also.: Atonic colon can be due to the absence of myenteric plexus or overuse of laxatives. If your colonoscopy and ct scan were normal, increased water intake, exercise and a high fiber diet will help. You had used lactulose, fruits, prunes, fiber, now add daily exercise, lots of water and stool softeners. I suppose you already see a gastroenterologist. Reflux: You may be suffering from gastroesophageal reflux. This is a condition where the stomach acid level is high, causing gas and sometimes even halitosis ( bad breath). Try a trial of over the counter prilosec, 1 tablet every morning before breakfast, and see if you notices difference in 2weeks. Otherwise, seek the advice of a dietician for diet modification and your gastroenterologist. ...Read more
