Several : Several studies and case reports suggest that prazosin can benefit individuals with ptsd in reducing sleep disturbances and nightmares. Daytime prazosin has been reported to reduce distress related to trauma cues. However, as you correctly pointed out, taking trazodone and prozosin together could cause undesirable side effects. Why? Both drugs act on so-called alpha-1 adrenergic receptors causing their blockade. This often results in hypotension or drop in blood pressure, especially when the person rapidly changes his or her body posture. This could result in dizziness and sudden increase in the heart rate. Both drugs could also cause excessive sedation. If you already taking medications for high blood pressure, prazosin and trazodone may potentiate their action, causing undesirably low blood pressure. However, the final decision in recommending both prazosin and trazodone rests with your physician who examined you and knows your medical history. Hope this information helps but please do not hesitate to contact my office if you have further questions. ...Read more

Im prescribed 3mg prazosin for ptsd @ bedtime but forgotten for 2 wks. Resumed last night and woke w/ abnormally low BP (90/60) & dizzy, nausea chills?

Not unusual: It is usual to start prazosin at 1 mg and slowly build up. It's also possible that 3 mg will always be too much for you. The main side effect is low BP with attendant symptoms (as you had) since it's primarily used as a BP lowering medicine. ...Read more

Complex: you have a situation thats best to solve with your MD and not on the internet. have you already seen a sleep specialist? you need to get an appt with your psychiatrist or a sleep medicine specialist. be clear that you don't like taking so many meds. also, you could get a second opinion about dx and meds. its possible that a higher dose of seroquel (quetiapine) could help. exercise and keep regular sleep sched. ...Read more
