I take hydralozine, clonidine, amlodipine, coreg (carvedilol) and losartan for HBP and thyroxine. could any of these medications cause erectile dysfunction?

BP meds can do this: Impotence are listed potential side effects of hydralazine, amlodipine and losartan. Potentially, any of the antihypertensive medicines can do this. It is uncommon to require 5 different medicines to control hypertension. Ask your doctor to reassess your treatment ...Read more

Is Cardura (doxazosin) a reasonable second BP drug with Lisinopril when CCBs, diuretics, beta blockers are not well tolerated? Also on B-agonists for asthma.

Is Cardura (doxazosin) a reasonable second BP drug with Lisinopril when CCBs, diuretics, beta blockers are not well tolerated? Also on B-agonists for asthma.

Yes, it is an option: Cardura (doxazosin) or another alpha blocker type drug is an option when the other classes of drugs mentioned are not well tolerated. Alpha blockers can cause dizziness so they are best taken at night to minimize this effect. The dose needs to be increased slowly. Make sure you are exercising and minimizing salt, alcohol and caffeine as well. ...Read more

Several : Several studies and case reports suggest that prazosin can benefit individuals with ptsd in reducing sleep disturbances and nightmares. Daytime prazosin has been reported to reduce distress related to trauma cues. However, as you correctly pointed out, taking trazodone and prozosin together could cause undesirable side effects. Why? Both drugs act on so-called alpha-1 adrenergic receptors causing their blockade. This often results in hypotension or drop in blood pressure, especially when the person rapidly changes his or her body posture. This could result in dizziness and sudden increase in the heart rate. Both drugs could also cause excessive sedation. If you already taking medications for high blood pressure, prazosin and trazodone may potentiate their action, causing undesirably low blood pressure. However, the final decision in recommending both prazosin and trazodone rests with your physician who examined you and knows your medical history. Hope this information helps but please do not hesitate to contact my office if you have further questions. ...Read more

Which is the best treatment for hbp: exforge (amlodipine and valsartan) or diltiazem and lisinopril?

Everyone is diffrent: . The key is to get your patient to goal. If you can get the blood pressure to 130/80 or less with either program then it really doesnt matter. In my experience Exforge (amlodipine and valsartan) performs better but you have to taylor the meds to the pt. ...Read more

With high blood pressure can you take cozaar (losartan) and midodrine together?

No,why would you?: Cozaar (losartan) is an arb class of blood pressure lowering medication, appropriate for those w/high blood pressure or hypertension. Midodrine is an Alpha receptor agonist used to treat patients w/orthostatic hypotension, whose blood pressure falls when they change positions. I can't imagine too many patients w/htn who are orthostatic w/treatment where you'd add another med rather than give fluids, etc. ...Read more
