Pravastatin sodium warnings and recalls - Doctor answers
Well tolerated: The majority of people on pravatatin don't even know they're taking it. Occasionally there is generalized muscle aching which improves on a smaller dose. Nausea, headache, rash fatigue, dizziness and stomach pain are listed as side effects but I rarely see them. If you think it's causing a side effect, the protocol is to stop it till the symptom resolves and then restart it to see if it returns. ...Read more
Caution: Excessive alcohol intake can potentially lead to liver dysfunction and/or damage. Pravastatin can potentially do the same. Taken together the risk increases. Alcohol consumption in moderation (couple of drinks a day) in individuals with no history of liver disease, while on statins, would be unlikely to cause a problem. Periodic monitoring of liver function should be done. ...Read more

Having some side effect. From 10 mg pravachol (pravastatin). Can I take it just 3 times a week and still get the benefits. What is pravachol (pravastatin) half life.?
Half Life is 1.8h: Not much benefit from thrice weekly pravastatin. The usual adult dose is 40mg, so 10mg is a very low dose to start with. One could withdraw the drug and keep an open mind as to whether the symptom is relieved. This could still happen by chance but is one way to separate "side effect" from other problem. ...Read more

Dizziness upon arising has ceased since increasing dosage of pravachol (pravastatin) from 20 mg to 40mg. Is it possible there is a correlation between the two?
I have been advised to receive 20 mg. Of pravachol (pravastatin) daily. I was previously on zocor (simvastatin). Which medicine is safer as to side effects?
They're very similar in structure, efficacy, and safety/side effect profile. But because they are slightly different, one may be better for you than the other.
Your doctor should be monitoring your progress on these meds. ...Read more
Which medicine (10 mg of pravachol (pravastatin) or 10 mg simvastatin) is safer and tolerated while taking 5 mg of amlodipine (ccb) at night. Thanks?
Pravostatin maybe: There is an interaction between amlodipine and statin drugs which can cause a breakdown in muscle tissues. It is more common with Simvastatin than pravachol (pravastatin). The recommendations say Simvastatin dose should be 20mg or less if taking amlodipine. So both of your choices are ok. But assume risk slightly higher with simvastatin. Note Simvastatin maybe more effective in lowering cholesterol. ...Read more
Does pravachol (pravastatin) 40 mg help lower trig.224 level increase HDL 27 level and solve the metabolic syndrome state my tall is 168 CM and 86 kg BP is 150/90?
Not Everything!: Pravachol (pravastatin) is a statin that is good for lowering LDL (bad chol) and increasing HDL (good chol). It does not do much for trig. Or metabolic syndrome. You may not want to hear it, but exercise and weight loss will help with metabolic syndrome. Exercise increases HDL and weight loss should help decrease trig and help with bs abnormalities. ...Read more
