Doctor insights on:
Pravastatin And Grapefruit
Grapefruit and stati: Generally you should significantly restrict your intake of grapefruit and its juice while taking statins because they reduce the breakdown of the drug and you can get toxicity and more side effects. The effect of ingesting grapefruit lasts the whole day. Statins most affected are Lipitor (atorvastatin) and Zocor. Pravastatin's interaction is thought to be less but caution is still generally advised.See 1 more doctor answer
I read on line that it is safe to drink red grapefruit juice if your taking pravachol, (pravastatin) is it?
In moderation: Safer to eat red grapefruit, as you are less likely to eat 6, 12, 20, etc, than drink 1/2 gallon, which might cause drug metabolism issue with certain meds. Intermittent use (/eating or drinking) allows time for liver to process the meds and other things presented to it.See 1 more doctor answer
