Having some side effect. From 10 mg pravachol (pravastatin). Can i take it just 3 times a week and still get the benefits. What is pravachol (pravastatin) half life. ?

Half Life is 1.8h: Not much benefit from thrice weekly pravastatin. The usual adult dose is 40mg, so 10mg is a very low dose to start with. One could withdraw the drug and keep an open mind as to whether the symptom is relieved. This could still happen by chance but is one way to separate "side effect" from other problem. ...Read more

I read on line that it is safe to drink red grapefruit juice if your taking pravachol, (pravastatin) is it?

I read on line that it is safe to drink red grapefruit juice if your taking pravachol, (pravastatin) is it?

In moderation: Safer to eat red grapefruit, as you are less likely to eat 6, 12, 20, etc, than drink 1/2 gallon, which might cause drug metabolism issue with certain meds. Intermittent use (/eating or drinking) allows time for liver to process the meds and other things presented to it. ...Read more

What is the peak time and half-life of amlodipine, pravachol, (pravastatin) and benicar/hct medicines respectively. Thanks for the help in advance.

LookOnline & Empower: Search engines, esp google, can rapidly find these answers for you (& me), e.g. Search "amlodipine t½" & go to nih, fda or edu websites. Keep in mind that chemical t½ life & physiologic t½ life may be very different, data is only a small group average & there are many variables. Also keep in mind that your primary medical decision maker (primary physician, if you will) is always you, no one else. ...Read more

Dizziness upon arising has ceased since increasing dosage of pravachol (pravastatin) from 20 mg to 40mg. Is it possible there is a correlation between the two?

Increased = ceased: Your observation about the chronology of when the dizziness became worse and the increased dose likely confirm this. Contact your md if this is anything more than minor and in particular continues for more than 3-5 days. ...Read more

Which medicine (10 mg of pravachol (pravastatin) or 10 mg simvastatin) is safer and tolerated while taking 5 mg of amlodipine (ccb) at night. Thanks?

Pravostatin maybe: There is an interaction between amlodipine and statin drugs which can cause a breakdown in muscle tissues. It is more common with Simvastatin than pravachol (pravastatin). The recommendations say Simvastatin dose should be 20mg or less if taking amlodipine. So both of your choices are ok. But assume risk slightly higher with simvastatin. Note Simvastatin maybe more effective in lowering cholesterol. ...Read more

Does pravachol (pravastatin) 40 mg help lower trig.224 level increase HDL 27 level and solve the metabolic syndrome state my tall is 168 CM and 86 kg BP is 150/90 ?

Not Everything!: Pravachol (pravastatin) is a statin that is good for lowering LDL (bad chol) and increasing HDL (good chol). It does not do much for trig. Or metabolic syndrome. You may not want to hear it, but exercise and weight loss will help with metabolic syndrome. Exercise increases HDL and weight loss should help decrease trig and help with bs abnormalities. ...Read more
