Ppi Not Working Change Medication
Maybe not acid: Nexium (esomeprazole) is a ppi, potent minimizer of acid production in the stomach. Several other ppis on market-all roughly equivalent, can take days some respond better to one than another. Make sure the problem is truly acid related, or not. Other issues including gall bladder, pancreas, celiac sprue, cardiac can cause similar symptoms. Don't know your history, meds, risk factors, etc. Follow up with doc. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Would calcium chloride affect absorption of meds. Trying to find antacid that won't stop meds from working effectively?
Yes: Antidepressants sometimes don't work as well after a while (say, a year), and the dose may need to be increased, or a different medication substituted. People develop "tolerance" to common tranquilizers for anxiety, so these meds tend not to work as well over time if they've been taken constantly. There are several alternatives, including other medications and non-medication treatments. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Taking 40mg prescription Prilosec daily and have breakthrough GERD which required zantac (ranitidine). Do i need a new ppi?
Maybe...: If you are following strict dietary and lifestyle modifications routinely recommended to patients with gerd and are compliant with taking your Nexium (esomeprazole) it may be time to either try a different ppi or double the dose of nexium (esomeprazole). 30 - 40% of patients with gerd will require a double dose of ppi for control of symptoms. Make sure you are followed by a GI specialist. Good luck! ...Read more

More on GERD: Healthtap is full of answers regarding GERD's causes, variations, and approaches for prevention. Please type "GERD" in the search box, and I think you'll find all the responses you could want! However, be sure of your diagnosis--there are a number of conditions that don't involve acid reflux but mimick GERD, and therefore don't respond to acid blockers. ...Read more
If Lexapro (escitalopram) 10 is not working for severe depression/anxiety after 3 weeks is it best to increase dose to 20mg or change the antidepressant?
Stop alcohol!: Lexapro (escitalopram) may require at least 4-6 weeks for effectiveness -- and if you're still drinking 8-14 alcoholic drinks a week, you need to stop. You may not want to hear this, though. However. Alcohol can be a depressant in itself, and also reduce the effectiveness of lexapro (escitalopram). The combination of the two is not in your best interest if you want to recover. Please discuss with your psychiatrist. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Taken Nexium, (esomeprazole) generic Nexium, (esomeprazole) and Protonix which cause drowsiness. Would it be worth taking Prevacid or Prilosec? Will tired feeling go away with time
Doubtful: None of the actions of any of these drugs would have anything to do with drowsiness. That is a very uncommon side effect of any of them. BUT Prilosec is well known to gum up the liver's ability to get other drugs out of you including all sedatives including alcohol.... so .. that one is doubly out. Otherwise, while I cannot explain why these drugs do that on you, the entire group is similar ...Read more
Why is omeprazole so poor in controlling excess stomach acid compared to esomeprazole? I find even OTC ranitidine and cimetidine work better. Just me?
Are there any other medications normally prescribed with PPIs for GERD? Can you just take the PPI only?
Do antipsychotics stop working and return you to your original state before medications when discontinued? I am definitely not the same as pre medicat
NO: No one and no disease is the same after being on medication, most of medical illnesses have no curative solutions, rather controlling and managing ones. I.E someone with hi blood pressure can't stop his meds and assume he will be the same . Psychopharmacology has advanced significantly and your doctor can work with you so you get the best results with the least possible side effects. ...Read more
Taking Omeprazole for acid reflux but suffer Vit.B defiency as result. Are there any alternative PPIs? Can dietary change alone manage the condition?

Gastritis from Diclofenac I've been given omerprazole to continue with Prednisolone/Gabapentin. Does omerprazole make it harder to digest food?Bloated
Been taking prevacid (lansoprazole) 30mg daily for 9 months for chronic gastritis. What is the best way to stop this med comfortably?
Scam: This is a very-low-calorie diet with an expensive placebo. You'll lose weight by restricting calories, and spend money for something that will do you no good. Ask your personal physician whether a crash diet is really right for you. Better, start hanging out with people who are into physical fitness and join in. Unlike a crash diet, this will result in real, sustained good results. ...Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers
