As it says: In some people with previous exposure to tb, especially remotely, an imitial TB skin test (tst) will be negative but a repeat, say 2 weeks later, can be positive. It is sort of like waking up the immune recognition of the bug. But, it is not at all clear that those who are only positive on the two-step tst are at risk for reactivation later as those with a 1-step positive tst. ...Read more
Treatment: Almost all the reactions are skin resonses. In an acute severe hair dye dermatitis caused by ppd, the hair and scalp has to be washed thoroughly with a mild shampoo. A solution of 2% hydrogen peroxide or a compresses with potassium permanganate in a 1:5000 dilution is applied to completely oxidize the ppd. To soften the crust, a wet dressing of olive oil and lime may be used. Always speak to your. ...Read more
See below: A positive PPD is determined by the presence of swelling (induration) around the injection site. Little or no swelling indicates a negative test. Reddness is not used to determine a neg or pos test. ...Read more
Depends: It usually only takes a few days but severe reactions can take 1-2 weeks and can even leave a scar if the reaction was a blistering one. ...Read more
Yes: The reaction the next time around can be more prominent leading to significant pain and discomfort and, potentially, a scar. Once a person has had a positive PPD skin test, they should not have the test repeated. ...Read more

Not sure if: You can suffer from a ppd. Ppd refers to purified protein derivative and is a screening test for tuberculosis. Either there is a reaction or not. If there is a reaction, classification of positive is dependent upon exposure history and underlying medical conditions. I am not sure that one 'suffers' from a ppd. Administration is not painful. ...Read more
Ppd test and after 3 days, the induration measures 8mm. Do you think an induration of 8mm is positive?
Depends. Please check the reference to see which factors apply to you. However - who checked the induration? I have always used the ballpoint pen method to determine parameters accurately. Feeling just with fingers alone may be inaccurate.

M. TB infection: To determine whether you're infected with mycobacterium tuberculosis, the bacterium that causes tb. A positive test doesn't necessarily mean you have active TB (the disease). Only if positive: Patients who have had a positive PPD should not ever have it repeated because there is the potential for a very severe reaction at the injection site, occasionally leading to loss of tissue and even the need for surgery and skin grafting. Actually, people who are negative may have the test done again shortly afterwards for the so-called booster effect. ...Read more
Firmness: The diameter of the circle of hardened skin at the site of the PPD is measured, and depending upon who you are, what underlying diseases you may have, what medications you are taking, it is read in 48 hrs. Do not measure the area of redness, only the area of firmness (induration). Otherwise there are seldom other symptoms. ...Read more
Depends: Who are you, what underlying conditions do you have. Generally, for a normal non-hiv adult, a one centimeter area of induration (hardness of the underlying tissues) is considered positive. Do not count areas of redness. If positive it means you have living mycobacteria somewhere in your body, although these can remain inactive the rest of your life. ...Read more
Not necessary: A negative PPD simply means you don't have a lump at the site of the PPD injection 48-72 prior. This means the skin appears normal. If there is a raised bump at the site, then depending on your particular risk factors or history, you may be positive. The next step would be a chest x-ray. But, if no bump, then negative. ...Read more
