Powder Like Stool
Need an exam: If you have pencil like stools you either have very very large hemorrhoids (which would be very obvious) or something more worrisome. You should find someone to look and examine you as well as possibly perform a colonoscopy . If you have hemorrhoids that big, they also need to be dealt with because you can become completely obstructed and not be able to pass stools! ...Read more
Does Polyethylene Glycol or also called miralax (polyethylene glycol) cause green sticky stools ? Please help
Not usually.: MiraLAX (polyethylene glycol) does not usually cause green sticky stools. If anything, it usually causes watery stools that are the same color as the stool was prior to taking the medication. Green stools are not usually worrisome. Unless you see black tarry stool or signs of red blood, I would not worry about it. Good luck. ...Read more
I kno that Miralax (polyethylene glycol) should soften stool but im having like a mushy type stool and the color looks like Burnt sienna is it normal?
Burns when pooping Like passing glass. Fine after passing. Stool softeners, fiber, hydrocortisone suppositories provide marginal relief. What is this?
I puked poop...? Like it tasted disgusting, and looking like diarrhea, with mostly small clumps. It smelled like poop too!
You need evaluation.: Feculent vomiting can be a sign of something serious in your abdomen, depending on your age and medical history. The most common cause is a bowel obstruction or bowel paralysis, which causes bowel contents to back up. Less common cause is a bowel fistula. Either way, you need to see a doctor to discover the reason and prevent a serious complication. ...Read more

Neither are laxative: Stool sofeners (colace) moisten & soften hard, dry stools whereas fiber supplements (metamucil) buks stool due to both water-holding & increased bacterial mass due to fiber digestion. Both products assume normal GI anatomy without inflammation, stenosis, extrinsic or instrinsic obstruction. Change in bowels is a "red flag", like weight loss or blood in stool, that needs evaluation if persistent. ...Read more
Irritable bowel: You may have what is called irritable bowel syndrome which may be worsened by stress. Try exercising regularly and consuming more fiber in your diet. I have tried senna tablets nightly, also stool softeners, some suppositories. Must strain and push hard and; bowel movements are hard little balls, ?
Eat more fiber: Adequate fiber (25-36g/d), plenty of fluid & regular physical activity are important for regular bowel function. Osmotic laxatives are also available over-the-counter - just ask your pharmacist. If you haven't had a colonoscopy in over 10 years, it's time. Definitely go see your family doc if you've noted any unintentional weight loss or change in appearance of your stool. ...Read more

I've tried linzess trulance miralax psyllium and other fiber supplements diets my stool is still pencil thin. Is triphala safe?
Safe enough: Triphala is an herbal formula used in Aruvedic medicine often for bowel problems/relief of constipation. It consists of at least three plants; it is not clear what chemical is responsible for it's effects. I would be more skeptical that it would provide any benefit for you, if the other things you list have not, more than I would be worried it was unsafe. You could try it without expecting too much ...Read more
Tar odor: The odor is nonspecific, but if the feces looks like tar, one would be concerned about occult bleeding in the upper gastrointestinal tract, use of peptobismol, or taking iron supplements. A simple rectal examination with inspection of a small stool specimen and a simple test of the specimen in the office would shed light on your concern and rule out blood in the stool. ...Read more
