The cough reflex is a protective mechanism that uses muscles in your throat and chest to expel mucous and saliva that may contain pathogens that would otherwise possibly be inhaled via aerosol or to expel pathogens infecting the throat and respiratory system. Cough benefits the host by reducing load and benefits the pathogen which may then spread via aerosol. ...Read more

Is it healthier to eat junk foods (eg. Fried foods, potato chips, candy) occasionally or avoid them altogether?
Agree w': Dr Fairchild. Many of the junk foods however contain ingredients that are addictive (corn syrup). For some people, when they eat a little they can't stop or they will eat more the next day and the cravings will continue. If once you take a little, you have trouble stopping or find that within a few days you are taking a little more, try to stay clear you may be addicted to something in the junk. ...Read more
Would someone please explain to me. Aside from sodium, if there aren't cholesterol in potato chips, why are they so bad for you?
Comparing a baked potato to a processed food like potato chips: The chips have more sodium, more fat, less fiber, less healthy potassium and far less vitamins and minerals.
Because the chips contain much more fat and are less filling than the baked potato it's easy to consume a whole lot of calories without realizing it. But there is nothing wrong with having a small bag of chips now and then. ...Read more
Dr, oz recommend 2% greek yogurt.....Does this refer to grams of fat in product or what exactly is 2% greek yogurt? I buy the non fat kind.....And it says 0/0 % on label in get chobani brand....Can I use this? And where can I get blue potato chips...I am
Hi. Yogurt is a food made by the natural bacterial fermentation of milk. Because greek yogurts are not heat treated and undergo little processing, they are a great source of probiotics. Probiotics are beneficial to the intestinal tract. Because of the live cultures in greek yogurt, it is reported to help with the absorption of calcium. Greek yogurt contains more protein and less sugar than typical american yogurts. Additionally, many people like the thick consistency of greek yogurt. Even with greek yogurts you need to check labels. Those that are flavored usually contain more sugar and more calories. The percentage of protein and carbohydrate differs depending on the brand. Greek yogurt is a great way to help meet your daily recommended dairy intake. It is also an awesome way to satisfy your sweet tooth while still eating healthy.
2% milk fat gets 35% of the it's calories from fats. Whole or 4% milk fat gets 46% of it's calories from fat. 1% milk fat gets 20% of it's calories from fat. Skim or nonfat milk get no calories from fat. Only 2% of the total volume of 2% milk is fat. But milk is composed mostly of water.
Chobaini makes great yogurt. 0% fat yogurt is fine. However, if you were diabetic or trying to work on a really good glycemic balance, the extra fat in 2% could aid in breaking down the calories more slowly.

Doubtful: Acrylamide, the subject of the decade-long hoopla, is a very weak mutagen and it would surprise me if it is a real carcinogen (cancer-causing chemical). Are corn chips just as fattening as potato chips? The ingredients I see are corn, corn oil, and salt.
About the same but..:
Neither corn or potato chips are very healthy. What makes a food fattening is the amount of starches ; unhealthy fats. Both potatoes ; corn are starchy. Corn ; other vegetable oils become toxic when heated to high temperatures. If corn chips aren't organic they prob. Have gmo corn which is esp. Harmful. Potatoes have high pesticides if not organic. What's so bad about potato chips? Is it okay if I eat them as a part of a balanced healthy vegan diet?
I know. ...: How can something that tastes so good be so bad for you! The two big problems are fat and salt! There are 150 calories in a single serving bag of potato chips, & nearly 100 of them (2/3!) are fat. The fat in them can contribute to common problems of oily skin & acne such as you report. But I don't believe in a total ban of anything that you really enjoy: eat a single serving bag 1-2 times/week:) ...Read more
Are potato chips and french fries still considered vegetables? Are they bad for you even if they are cooked in "vegetable" oil?
Sort of, REALLY BAD: Technically french fries/chips are vegetables but are also junk food. When people are advised to eat veggies these aren't what's meant & don't count as credit towards servings. French fries/chips are very fattening, usually contain hazardous trans fats & have high levels of carcinogenic acrylamides. Baked potatoes have acrylamides too but less fat. See http://www. Do potato chips and milk make the face oily? My skin has gotten oily and the only thing that I could think caused it was my diet. Or is it stress?
No: One usually cannot blame oily skin on foods or drinks unless the oil goes away when a particular food is stopped, and returns when the food is resumed. Potato chips are unnecessary and can be stopped, if one wants to see if that helps. Milk is important for calcium, vitamin D, protein... meaning milk shouldn't be stopped unless one has a good substitute. "Stress" can lead to a variety of symptoms. ...Read more
