More info needed: The top two places the body losses potassium are the gut or the kidney. Kidney losses are hormone related or acid/base related. Gut losses are usually related to loose stools or vomiting. Need more eval: Sounds like you may have another cause of low potassium. Not sure if ur on other potassium-losing diuretics, but you're on at least some that are potassium-sparing. There are some other problems that can lead to potassium loss (ex. Some kidney & adrenal problems), that can also lead to hypertension and other problems. I assume your mom: has had other tests to confirm that she does indeed have kidney problems. The best way to prevent further deterioration is proper treatment of any disorder that might contribute to or worsen kidney function. Drugs that might be toxic to kidneys must be avoided.
