If I had a nephrectomy due to renal dysplasia, but was told my remaining kidney was healthy, how often should I get my kidney checked?

Infrequently: Prognosis for normal health + life span is excellent. Solitary remaining kidney will provided more function than you need as has undergone so called compensatory hypertrophy. Avoui xs animal protein or added salt in diet. (good advice for everyone) annual blood pressure check and biannual blood creatinine check should more than suffice and can be performed by your primary health care physician. ...Read more

It depends: This is not an easy answer, because it depends upon the stage of your original tumor and your surgical pathology. I would ask this question of your urologist or oncologist, who know the specifics of your case. ...Read more

What"s the prognosis of stage 1 and fuhrman grade-2 clear cell renal cancer in 60 yr asymptomatic diabetic male after 2 yrs of radical nephrectomy?

About 90% survival: Depending on the series, you will find estimates from 67% to 94%. With stage i disease, the grade is less important in determining prognosis. A two year disease free interval improves the outlook over the stage alone. ...Read more

What is the survival rate for sarcomatoid renal cell carcinoma after a partial nephrectomy. Encapsulated and clear margins ?

Good: The survival rate for renal cell carcinoma is determined by several factors, including the stage and grade. Although sarcomatoid is a more aggressive variant of the disease, most predictive programs do not factor this into estimates of survival. For a small tumor (< 4 cm), well encapsulated and completely removed the 5 year survival should be > 90%. ...Read more

What is the survival rate of renal cell carcinoma patients who have had treatment with nephrectomy?

What is the survival rate of renal cell carcinoma patients who have had treatment with nephrectomy?

Depends on stage: Renal cell carcinoma, like every other cancer, has a staging system. Within any one stage, survival is usually quoted as 5-yr survival, that is, the % of patients one can expect to still be alive in 5 years. So a nephrectomy might be performed on a patient in stage i, and have excellent survival, or in stage IV and have poor survival. ...Read more

I am 9 weeks post op for renal cell carcinoma (partial nephrectomy) and I have a jp pump and a nephrosty tube. For how long?

Await healing leak: Having a nephrostomy tube and jp drain for 9 weeks after a partial nephrectomy would be very unusual. I assume that this was because of a urine leak after surgery? Urine leaks, while rare, can occur, particularly if the tumor was large or very central in the kidney. However, your course is unusual and i would recommend you ask your surgeon specifically what the long term plan for management is. ...Read more

After nephrectomy for clear cell renal cancer , pathology lab gave me slides of cancer. How can they be helpful for me in screening/prognosis?

Screening/prognosis: Having your slides with you are always helpful. You are young, and rcc is rare in young people except those with familial predispositions, such as von hippel lindau, polycystic kidney disease or tuberous sclerosis. In terms of screening, your slides can be used by pathologists to compare your prior tumor to anything new that arises or assess the grade of your tumor to prognosticate behavior. ...Read more

I had nephrectomy in feb. After that i was diagnosed as metastatic renal cell carcinoma (lung cancer). But i don't have any symptoms as doc said. Why?

Congratulations: Renal cell carcinoma is notoriously capricious and unpredictable. It's common for a lung metastasis to vanish or stay stable for many years, especially after removal fo the primary tumor. I'm going to assume the diagnosis is accurate. Cherish being alive and be thankful for whatever time you have left -- fill it with love and good things. ...Read more
