What are the best anti-tussive drugs?

What are the best anti-tussive drugs?

What's the cause?: Really, it's getting at the heart of what's causing the cough - is it post viral cough, reflux, post-nasal drip, etc. You would treat each of them differently. For nonspecific therapy, honey has been shown to be just as effective as most otc meds. Cough meds w/ opiods are probably the most effective (codeine, hycodan) but they come with their own risks - resp depression, constipation.

I have cough what's the difference between mucolytic and anti tussive?

I have cough what's the difference between mucolytic and anti tussive?

Cough remedies: A mucolytic like "guaifensin" thins out the mucous and secretions as antitussives like "codeine, or dextromethorphan" are made to suppress a cough. These drugs are often used in combination. Drink plenty of fluids with these. See your physician if cough persists or worsens. Good luck and good health

Tussive: Tussive means cough. So it means that a patient has a viral infection that has affected the lungs, and now is causing coughing. This can be a very frustrating problem but it usually resolves on its own. If it isn't resolving, or if you have fever or shortness of breath, then see your doctor again immediately.

What do I need to tell my fiance about my future health? I have fainting after coughing.

What do I need to tell my fiance about my future health? I have fainting after coughing.

Depends: The condition you have is called cough syncope. As long as you supress the cough your fine. If you do pass out it's related to the vagus nerve and usually resolves quickly without permanent nuerologic sequella. However if your driving or up on a ladder and you do have an attack, the consequences could be disastrous. Pts like this need aggressive cough suppression with colds or infections.

Why do I get a headache after coughing alot?

Why do I get a headache after coughing alot?

A couple things...: First, the coughing itself can mildly increase the pressure inside your head which can lead to headaches. Second, the process of coughing can cause muscle spasms in you neck which can contribute to headache as well. Lastly, if you cough for long enough or are not getting enough oxygen, you can develop a headache from that as well. Hope that helps!

What are the potential causes of a headache that gets worse after coughing? Are all the causes serious?

What are the potential causes of a headache that gets worse after coughing? Are all the causes serious?

Headache after cough: A headache after or associated with cough is most likely a primary cough headache and will resolve as the cough or cold resolves. Secondary cough headaches in the back of the head that are persistent include association with cervical spine pathology or Chiari malformation which also presents with dizziness, imbalance, or visual problems. Persistent headaches deserve further investigation/imaging.

Is it normal to have chest pain after coughing?

No, but: If you cough hard enough, you could get some intercostal muscle pain. If you hurt taking a deep breath too, pleurisy is a consideration. If you have fever with those symptoms, pneumonia is a concern.

After coughing I get a sensitive abdominal sometimes with pain. What does that mean? Pls help

You've been coughing: The most common reason for abdominal pain after coughing is sore abdominal muscles which became strained during coughing. There are many other causes of abdominal pain. If it persists or gets worse, (vomiting) see your doctor.

Broken rib?: Sometimes VERY hard coughing can actually break a rib. That's my suspicion in your case. The diagnosis is confirmed with an x-ray. There is a procedure which can numb the nerve going to the rib, to give pain relief until it heals. But it takes several weeks to heal.
