Stay hydrated : The pain is normal, as long as the wounds look ok. The diarrhea can be normal, but if you're running a fever or feel ill, see your surgeon and ask to check for C. Dificile colitis. The vomiting/diarrhea could be from a viral infection, or an abscess. You must stay well hydrated, and may need IV fluids. Best to call your surgeon for a more complete eval. Not from the surgery: It is very unlikely that these current symptoms are related to your surgery. By far the most common cause of diarrhea is viral infection (enteritis, or gastroenteritis if it involves nausea/vomiting). With any diarrhea, weight loss, dehydration (feeling like you're going to pass out when standing), or fever lasting > 1 day would be cause for concern. Possibly: Residual symptoms of pancreatitis can include some fullness and discomfort, depending on severity and cause. During the period of recovery, abstinence from alcohol, limiting fatty food intake, may limit the stress on the pancreas. Depends: When was your surgery? Would not want to combine immodium & narcotic pain pills. Best is to address the issue first with avoiding fried, fatty, greasy foods. Drink plenty of water. Check with your doctor or surgeon before adding medication like this. Immidium will not correct the cause if the diarrhea either & likely to have better results with prescription cholestyramine. Gastroenteritis: Generally may be due to one of several viral infections and this should clear within a day or so.
