I'm 37wks pregnant & baby has avsd. Doctor suggested elective cesarian at 38wks as baby's heart weakening (110beat/min). Is this best for both of us?

Fetal center.: Your baby's case should be managed according to a multidisciplinary fetal care center recommendations, with input from pediatric cardiology, maternal-fetal medicine, neonatology and obstetrics. A pre-labor cesarean delivery is not necessary for most avsds, especially if the fetus is syndromic (down?). On the other hand, if fetal testing is non-reassuring then prompt delivery may prove life-saving. ...Read more

Will a vanishing twin (lost at 7 weeks) affect the results of first trimester Down's syndrome blood testing?

Will a vanishing twin (lost at 7 weeks) affect the results of first trimester Down's syndrome blood testing?

Unlikely: These tests rely on the active production of various markers in the blood and so a demised twin this early on will be unlikely to affect the test. These tests however, should be interpreted in the setting of a screening ultrasound to help better understand the risk. That being said, no test is ever 100% accurate, though they are useful. Consultation with a genetic counselor will help. ...Read more

My baby died in womb at 40 weeks + 4 days. No umbrical cord wrapping or placenta seperation. Does cephalo pelvic disproportion cause death. ?

Sorry for your loss: Tragically, many fetal deaths after 40 weeks remain unexplained. Cpd means that the baby gets "stuck" after a very prolonged labor. If your baby died before labor started, then it wasn't cpd. If you decide to have another child, give yourself enough time to grieve and heal, and then work closely with a perinatologist (high risk OB specialist) who can do extra specialized testing and monitor well. ...Read more
