I am 23years old male.Does allantoin help in treating post inflammatory hyperpigmentation?

I am 23years old male.Does allantoin help in treating post inflammatory hyperpigmentation?

Possibly: Allantoin is a metabolite of uric acid in many species of animals/plants/bacteria..not humans. It is included in some OTC cosmetics and is thought to be moisturizing, increasing water content surrounding skin cells, and enhancing desquamation (shedding) of upper layer of skin cells. It may help in wound healing including inflammation such as you may have. I don't think it affects hyperpigmentation ...Read more

Will you still get post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation if you don't let that part of the skin see sunlight for months?

Yes, if prone to it.: Good question! sunlight does not cause pih, but it can make it worse once it occurs. So pih can still occur on non-sun-exposed skin (if you are prone it) -- but it will go away faster if no sunlight hits it. (or if you wear a good sunscreen lotion every day). ...Read more

How can I get rid of some post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation?

Many thoughts: Hyperpigmentation may be caused by chronic inflammation. I al ways imagine that any time there is inflamm, the melanocytes (pigment cells) flock to the area thinking there is a party going on and just dont leave. I like rx hydroquinone and retinoids plus sunscreen. Sunscreen and hats are the most important thing. I love obagi nuderm for this and there are botanicals too but don't work as well. ...Read more

What makes and get rid of post inflammatory hyperpigmentation better?

Healing: The real question is what not to do that slows down healing. Avoid using alcohol, peroxide, hibiclens, betadine, and bleach solutions. Inflammation ( red, hot, swollen, tender) is important to healing so anti-inflammatories (motrin, advil) are bad. Cover the area with a clean dressing changed every other day and protected from trauma. The hyperpigmentation is normal and will fade a bit in time. ...Read more

So, doctors of healthtap are saying that no topical helps with post inflammatory hyperpigmentation? How does anyone trust doctors? Derm says otherwise

Not quite right: Retin-A does not help pigmentation problems, but the docs on this board also know & say that there is treatment for pigmentation problems- hydroxyquinone is 1 of them. The Dermesse (Obagi) programs use both to help skin tone, wrinkles, and pigmentaation problems and superficial scarring. There are other skin programs out there. Other docs besides dermatologists have an interest in aesthetics ...Read more

Is rexol good for post inflammatory hyperpigmentation as a result of acne ?

It's an option: Rexsol lighteners contain hydroquinone. Use it sparingly or you can disfigure yourself. The pigmented lesions fade in a few weeks or months. I'm more concerned that you get the new ones under control. If topical benzoyl peroxide has not cleared you in two weeks, get with your personal physician. ...Read more
