Yes, if prone to it.: Good question! sunlight does not cause pih, but it can make it worse once it occurs. So pih can still occur on non-sun-exposed skin (if you are prone it) -- but it will go away faster if no sunlight hits it. (or if you wear a good sunscreen lotion every day). ...Read more

Many thoughts: Hyperpigmentation may be caused by chronic inflammation. I al ways imagine that any time there is inflamm, the melanocytes (pigment cells) flock to the area thinking there is a party going on and just dont leave. I like rx hydroquinone and retinoids plus sunscreen. Sunscreen and hats are the most important thing. I love obagi nuderm for this and there are botanicals too but don't work as well. ...Read more

Healing: The real question is what not to do that slows down healing. Avoid using alcohol, peroxide, hibiclens, betadine, and bleach solutions. Inflammation ( red, hot, swollen, tender) is important to healing so anti-inflammatories (motrin, advil) are bad.
