Can you describe a coronary angiogram?

Coronary Angiogram

Heart
A Coronay Angiogram or Catheterization is an invasive diagnostic procedure to evaluate the arteries in the heart looking for plaque, occlusions or blockages caused by CAD, coronary artery disease. This test allows the cardiologist to look at the arteries by using contrast fluoroscopy, a type of x-ray, to better evaluate the risk of a cardiac event. http://swcva.com/hospital_procedures.htm

Ct coronary angiogram takes pictures of what parts?

Arteries

Heart
A CT angiogram takes pictures of the coronary, or heart, arteries. It also gives information of the remaining cardiac structures. The main pumping chambers, or ventricles, the heart muscle walls and some information regarding the heart valves as well. If there are bypass grafts from previous surgeries, these can often be visualized as well.

Whats safer: coronary angiogram or ct angiogram?

Ct vs cath

Heart
In simplest terms the CT angiogram would be safer than a coronary angiogram, however, they are usually used in different circumstances. The ct angiogram is useful as a screening tool to see if coronary disease is present. A cardiac catheterization is performed when a patient has an acute coronary syndrome or a myocardial infarction to evaluate coronary disease, or even treated.

Dr. Bennett Werner answered:

How reassuring is a normal coronary angiogram? How accurate are they?

Very

Angiogram
Angiograms are highly accurate. Nothing is 100% but the angiogram is the "gold standard". Life doesn't come with guarantees, but a normal angiogram is about as close as you're going to come to that in reference to heart disease.
