3yr old h/O failure to thrive/poor growth. Ped GI found IgA 183, ESR 26, calprotectin 165, burr cells 1+. Plan is to repeat labs & if unchanged colonoscopy. food allergy??? Maybe see allergist too????
Failure to thrive : I think your GI doctor suggested an upper endoscopy with possible sigmoidoscopy. Eosinophilic gastroenteropathy Is a possible reason which is evaluated by biopsies. If the biopsies are consistent with above then next step is an allergist but make sure you see a pediatric allergist who is familiar with this condition. I was charged a copayment for a colonoscopy by the staff after taking my health insurance info. I thought that preventive care requires no copayment?
Visits have both...: Many doctor visits have both preventive care and symptom care. A routine colonoscopy due to a patient's age can be preventive care. But if the patient has constipation, tummy aches, or even a sore throat related to that visit, then part of the visit becomes symptom care (copay is needed). Probably OK: This is a relatively low-grade temperature. It is impossible to know for certain if it's normal without a detailed history and physical examination. If you are passing gas, and not having escalating abdominal pain, you are probably doing fine.
