Mg citrate: If using it as a laxative - you may be creating a situation where your body becomes dependent on it to have a BM. Otherwise - i might be concerned about the amount of magnesium your body is absorbing. I would talk to your doctor about this - rarely should constipation last this long. Also a serum magnesium level might be appropriate Good luck ...Read more

Very effective: Mag citrate is very effective. I recommend you start taking a daily stool softener, not a laxative. This will help you stay normal. Usually start with miralax or colace one or two times daily until your going once daily and no longer dealing with constipation. Taking too much stool softener is just as bad and can lead to constant diarrhea. Request a 2nd oppinion for a more detailed plan. ...Read more

I gave my son 1 oz Magnesium Citrate w/6oz liquid @ 8:30 am; another 1 oz @ 2:30. He still hasn't pooped. What do you suggest?

How old is he?: It matters if he is 3 or 10. How many days since he last pooped? I hesitate to give you exact number of amount not knowing his age. But if he could drink 6 oz and it has been 2 days since he pooped, I would be tempted to give him --1 time--- half a bottle of Magnesium Citrate-- and wait half a day for him to go, and in the meantime only give him clear liquids until he has results. ...Read more

Bowel prep.: Magnesium citrate, which is a liquid that comes usually in a green bottle at the drug store, is often used before laparoscopic surgery to prep the bowel. Constipation.: Are you having pain? Is your abdomen getting rounder? My concern is that you may have an actual blockage or obstruction - worst case scenario, of course as I don't know all the specifics of your current plight. But not having a BM despite all those efforts means that you should really be evaluated by a doctor, and get an abdominal X-ray to rule out obstruction. ...Read more
