Positive Leukocyte Esterase In Urine
Urine is the product of the kidneys, which is produced to eliminate the waste products of metabolism, manage body fluid balance, &maintain acid-base balance. The blood is first filtered by the kidneys, and the composition of the resulting fluid is then altered depending on the body's needs. It is composed of mostly water, and breakdown products from blood cells impart ...Read more
GFR - 117.35, Albumin-4.6, leukocyte esterase-positive, urine WBC-25. Cud this indicate kidney disease? No symptoms of UTI. ANY suggestions?
Hi I had a urine test and had positive leukocyte esterase. No other symptoms. Can it mean anything other than a UTI or could it be lab error?
All urine results, neg, but LEUKOCYTE ESTERASE shows MODERATE. What does this mean? Last time it was SMALL/Clear. This time MODERATE/SLIGHTLY-CLOUDY.
Urinalysis: Cloudy urine and urine containing white blood cells (leukocytes) don't necessarily signify a urinary tract infection. The white cells may be contaminants from a vaginal infection or discharge. A clean catch urine culture would rule in or out a urinary tract infection. If you have a vaginal discharge, see your gynecologist and he/she can order any appropriate urinary tests if no vaginal infection ...Read more
Should I be concerned if my leukocyte esterase result was 500 and blood number in urine was 25? If so what could be problem?
Recent urine test shows Leukocyte Esterase Small. What does that mean? Also shows Moderate Blood and Turbid appearance. Any ideas?
For 9 months consistently I am flagged with my urine tests at over 500 for the leukocyte esterase, I’m usually also flagged for nitrates being hi.
Need more info:
Why were the tests done? Do you have any symptoms? All laboratory results need to be interpreted in the clinical context and the doctor who ordered the tests is usually in the best position to do that. Talk to the doctor who ordered the tests.
The two results you mentioned are markers for urinary infection.

I had a blood test and urine test. Everything was normal, but my urine test showed leukocyte esterase said small (1+) (negative)a. I took another one he said 99% it will be fine. I'm freaking out.
Not to worry:
The urine dip test is only a screening test. In women, it is not unusual to find a small quantity of leukocyte esterase in the urine which can be from vaginal contamination.
A urine culture is the definitive test for urinary tract infection. In the worst case scenario if you culture is positive, a short course of antibiotic is usually all that is needed to cure it. ...Read more
How abnormal is 5-10 for WBC in a urine test? I am curious about a small abnormality on my physical: the results of the urine chem/microscopy say “trace” of leukocyte esterase (reference range: negative) and a “flag” says ab. Following that the WBC is “ab
A few white blood cells in the urine of a female patient is very common, especially if the urine sample was not collected in particular manner. If a physician is interested in getting urine from a woman's bladder that has not been contaminated by passing through the vagina, which normally contains bacteria and white blood cells, the sample should be collected by asking the woman to use a antiseptic towelette to wipe the vagina while spreading the inner labia, then to urinate into the toilet for a second, stop urinating, then urinate into the specimen cup.
If you didn't collect the urine in this manner, then it's more than likely that the white blood cells are from the vagina, not the bladder as are the bacteria and the leuk esterase. If it is noted that there were squamous epithelial cells in the urine, then it's even more likely, because those cells are found only in the vagina, not the bladder.
Back pain is a common symptom, and occasionally it is the sole symptom of a urinary tract infection, but not usually. Most of the time people with utis will have pain on urination or frequency of urination, fevers, or pain on the sides of their back.
If you have any of these (fever, urinary pain or frequency, or pain on the sides of your back) or if the middle back pain persists for more than a week, you should see a doctor.
But the biggest thing here is, the physician who ordered the urine test should be available and eager to answer your question. ...Read more
I got my urine analysis and find an acidic ph 5 ++leukocyte esterase 8-10 RBC 20-30 Pus cells Many epithelial cells I need help to know what's wrong?
How do I get a high white blood count in my urine but test negative for nitrites and leukocyte esterase?
UA results: Nitrites indicate bacterial abundance. If negative, then very low grade infection or no infection exists. Leuk esterase indicates leukocyte enzyme release, reflecting battling leukocytes. If neg, then no leuk attack present, or very low grade. So --- leukocytes without infection do appear in urine from interstitial nephritis, usually allergic, or from interstitial cystitis, usually of unknown ...Read more

Discuss results: The Dr who ordered the test needs to provide feedback to you in a way that clarifies the impact on your Dx and Tx options. It should make sense to you or it is not a finished piece of work. Get a consult and perhaps bring someone along to help you understand and remember the details. ...Read more
Does an urinalysis report of: leukocyte esterase 1+, urine WBC 6-10 and squamous epithelial cells 0-5 mean an infection?
Not necessarily: Voided (vs. Catheterized) urine specimens in women are potentially subject to contamination. Urine culture is the definitive method of determining the presence of infection. Another important point is that in older women in the absence of symptoms, this kind of urine abnormality alone or even a positive culture should not be treated with antibiotics (asymptomatic bacteriuria). ...Read more
Had blood and urinalysis 7/15. Blood work was all normal but urine showed creatinine level of 409, trace protein, trace leukocyte esterase, WBC, hyali?
Stop worrying: I understand you have fibromuscular dysplasia of the renal arteries and hope this can be addressed. The urine creatinine, trace protein and hyaline casts are non-issues, the trace of leukocyte esterase and white cells (unless very numerous or you have symptoms of infection) are likely contamination, and if your physician is not concerned, I would not be either. Best wishes. ...Read more

I just find out that I have one kidney bigger than the other, urine as been tested and sign of blood and my leucocyte esterase is 25 wbc/ul, ?
Here are some....: The significance of discrepancy in kidney size remains to be defined by detailed history stressing sequence of events, but most likely not important or even relevant at age 50. As to 25 WBC/ml in UA, one has to make sure the tested urine was properly collected especially in females. More on? UTI...? Go to articles in http://formefirst. Com/onUTI. Html. More?
