? Active infection: It's impossible for me to answer with certainty since i don't know the normal ranges your lab uses. If early ag & vca igm are elevated above normal this indicates active ebv infection.I don't know if it is acute or chronic without knowing your history. If chronic i see that as a sign of poor immune function.Immune-boosting herbs/supplements & IV vit c drips may help, but find why immunity is poor. ...Read more

Immunoglobulin M (Definition)

There are 5 classes of immune proteins: igg, iga, igm, ige and igd. Igm fights infection. If you produce too little then infections may occur and you have hypogammaglobulinemia. If you have too much you ...Read more

Reactivated EBV 9 months after first infection. Could i be immunodeficient? Antibody count: 65 ab VCA igm; 53 ea ab igg; 431 ab VCA igg; 289 ebna igg.

No: Unfortunately ebv stays alive forever in one's lymphocytes and can get activated easily in susceptible people without known immunodeficiency. However you may call that an immunodeficiency given that all people have been infected with it yet only few would have recurrent ebv problem. ...Read more

Treat the person: Lab tests mean nothing in isolation, and have many false positives and false negatives. The decision to make a trial of a gluten-free diet will be between you and your gastroenterologist or dermatologist based on the big picture. ...Read more

what is difference between IgM and IgG for western blot for lyme. positive for IgM but not IgG, what does that mean? tks

Recent infection: Hi. IgM is present only with recent infection. After IgM levels fall away, IgG takes over for ongoing and recurrent exposure to antigen. (The antibodies in this picture are IgG's). I'm glad your doc was on the ball. She/he may have saved you a world of hurt by making the diagnosis promptly. Good luck! ...Read more

Ask who ordered: The test, but in general, they were suspecting EBV infection/Infectious mononucleosis, which looks negative, the final diagnosis is with the doctor who ordered the blood test. Clinical picture is important, finally we treat patients not lab results, good luck ...Read more

Had EBV test came back EBV nuc IgG ser qi eia positive and EBV vac IgG eia postive. Ebv capsid IgM eia negative. I'm so tired what do this mean?

Makes perfect sense: Igm antibodies rise only during the actual, acute infection. They then fade away and are replaced by the various igg antibodies, which are the ones that provide lifetime protection against the same strain of the virus. So your numbers are consistent with the fact you had mono years ago. There is no igm, and positive igg levels. So you are immune and do not currently have mono. ...Read more

You had mono...: Your mono-like symptoms likely prompted the testing- i hope you are starting to feel a little better. Testing for different antibodies (igm and igg) against ebv, requires careful interpretation. In early phases of infection, the igm level peaks first followed by a decline; levels of igg peak afterwards, and may remain elevated for quite a while. ...Read more

I have CBC test where monocytes are high, liver enzymes ALT high; also EBV IgG positive, CMV IgG positive CMV IgM normal.. Hiv negative at 32 weeks.

See below: All laboratory results need to be interpreted in the clinical context and the doctor who ordered the tests is usually in the best position to do that. Having said that, it would help to have the actual values of the results. The one item of interest is high ALT. If you drink alcohol, stop entirely for three months and redo the test. Other results are okay. ...Read more

Elevated EBV ab VCA IgG <8 and EBV nucleaer antigen ab IgG test 4.2. & anti-dna(ss)igg ab qn ( 119)& c react protien(5.6) what are implications?

Nothing.: Ebv antibodies indicate you had a previous infection, but not active. The c-reactive protein needs a units indicator - that is either normal or somewhat elevated. The anti ss dna is extremely nonspecific and very rarely indicated; I have no idea why that was ordered, discuss with your doctor. ...Read more

Have IgG and IgM for CMV but PCR not detected. Pos rmsf IgM neg igg. Bands in CSF mri/white matter foci. Many symptoms possible ms.. No real answers?

Uncertainty: I am unclear as to what is really going on. Appears that you have immune activity in the central nervous system. You have some cross-reactivity in the serum for CMV and rickettsial infection. Don't think that need to add another disease to the picture. Best to discuss with your doctor or get a second opinion from another specialist. ...Read more

What does a high EBV viral capsid antibody IgG mean?

Past EBV infection: The presence of igg to the ebv capsule means that your body was exposed at some time in the past to ebv and made antibodies against it. It is at its highest level 2-3 months after the initial infection, and it will always be present. An elevated igm level would be consistent with current/recent infection. ...Read more

Igm is negative but IgG is positive for Lyme disease, what to do?

Igm is negative but IgG is positive for Lyme disease, what to do?

Old Infection: This most likely means you had an old infection with lyme disease. Our bodies make IgM early in an infection and IgG later. Even once the infection is gone there will be detectable IgG for quite some time. This is part of how our body remembers previous infections so we can fight them off better if we get them again. ...Read more

How long could the IgG in Lyme disease stay positive?Could it stay positive more than 5-10 years? I know the IgM ab convert to IgG just want an answer

Yes,positive 20+ yrs: Research suggests igg antibodies can persist at least 20 years after infection. While igm antibodies appear first, unlike other infections they often persist ; are a good indicator of persistent infection. One may have chronic lyme with or without persistence of igg antibodies. Chronic lyme is difficult to fully eradicate ; no current test proves that it is no longer present in your body! ...Read more

Is it possible to have a Lyme infection with a negative IgG but positive igm?

Is it possible to have a Lyme infection with a negative IgG but positive igm?

Yes: Igm is the immunoglobulin noted for coming out early in response to any illness, it fades over time while igg come out a bit later and stays up longer. If you have a positive IgM it indicates a early response, while igg would probably show up in a few months at which point the IgM would have declined. ...Read more

Hello,

I have the following symptoms listed above. I tested positive for IgG p66, IgG p41 And IGm P23. Do I have Lyme? Or a bacteria?

Lyme: Lyme is diagnosed from the following tests: ELISA, IFA, PCR, Western blot, culture or visualization. Western blot is positve and confirmatory for 5 of the following IgG antibodies to proteins 18, 23, 28, 30, 39, 41, 46, 58, 66, 93. You should have sympotms too. ...Read more

Why would my lyme disease western blot test show 4 igg bands as reactive? Could this mean I have the disease? None of the igm bands were reactive.

Not necessarily: IgM antibody means recent infection. IgG antibody usually means remote infection. You may not have the disease, just that you may have been infected at one time. ...Read more

What is the difference in testing an IgG and IgM bands for Lyme versus multiple myeloma?

Different Diseases: Lyme and multiple myeloma are two very different diseases which are not likely to be confused for one another on a test like this. Igg and igm are two different types of proteins made by the immune system, and within each category you have thousands of different proteins in your body. For lyme, the test looks for a protein that proves your body has "seen" lyme organisms before. ...Read more

Negative: If a patient's lab test result is <0.91, and the lab says the reference range for NEGATIVE is <0.91, then the test result is NEGATIVE. Of course, numbers are just numbers, so the doctor needs to see the numbers in the context of the whole patient in order to make sensible and accurate conclusions from the numbers. ...Read more

Merits further tests: With an uncertain test result, a western blot test is appropriate, one that tests for antibodies to several lyme spiroochete body parts, both for igm and igg. Igenex labs in palo alto ca has a very precise western blot test and you can get a blood draw kit with instructions for free (at least your doc can order it) also suggest a cd57 natural killer cell test available through labcorp (only). ...Read more
