Positive ana test and cancer - Doctor answers
If I have a high positive ANA (1:640) speckled, nucleolar and low positive SMA (1:40), what further tests do I need to do? (Negative SS-A, SS-B, Smith, RNP, SCL-70, Anti Jo Abs)
? anti dsDNA: You've probably already had these more basic tests: complete blood count, sedimentation rate, C-reactive protein, urinalysis & rheumatoid factor. It appears to me that the ANA results with slight positive anti-Smith may suggest lupus; you need an antibody to double-stranded DNA (anti dsDNA) which is very specific & somewhat sensitive for lupus. All this needs to be correlated by your doc/specialist ...Read more
Cancer is a group of diseases that is characterized by uncontrolled cell growth leading to invasion of surrounding tissues that spread to other parts of the body. Cancer can begin anywhere in the body and is usually related to one or more genetic mutations that allow normal cells to become malignant by interfering with internal cellular control mechanisms, such as programmed cell death or by preventing ...Read more
If u had a early cdt lung blood test and out of six tests the mage4 was a little over cutoff and u are ANA positive 1:640 spec. Suggest cancer?
Autoimmune: I can't say much about the earlycdt test- it is not primetime at this time. To me, the test has to go through validity and quality control first and there is no a good clinical trial that backed up this test- I won't use it at this time. If you don't know how to interprete the result-it only creates anxiety &unnecessary test. You may have autoimmune disease-especially if you have symptoms. D/w md. ...Read more
All laboratory results need to be interpreted in the clinical context and the doctor who ordered the tests is usually in the best position to do that. Having said that an ANA of 1/80 in of itself is not worrisome. Do you have any symptoms? Were other tests done, if yes, what were the results. ANA is not a marker for cancer.

I have upper back pain one year. I have had CT of chest and MRI of spine. I do have elevated sed and positive ana. Suggest cancer?
My ANA is positive and the speckled pattern is 1:160. Doesthat indicate cancer? My thyroid and other tests are fine.
If you tested positive for mage4 on a early cdt lung blood test and have +ana 1:640 and elevated sed. Clear chest CT and MRI spine ok. Cancer?
Check with your doc:
Mage4 on a early cdt lung blood test was ordered by a doc, although you do not seem to be a high risk patient and you probably do not smoke 3 packs daily. Therefore the test was not necessary and now we have false positive result.
You may have some form of lupus, or sle, or something else. I highly doubt that you have cancer. However, check with your doc to be safe. Ask why the test was necessary. ...Read more
Nada without disease: If you do not have a clinical disease or symptoms then it simply means you have a positive test (maybe 1/3 of the population has a "positive" test). If the titer is very high (greater than 1:640) you should probably be followed to see if a disease is developing. ...Read more
It does not: At your age, if you have lymphoma it's probably Hodgkin's. ANA really has nothing to do with malignant lymphoma. If you're worried about big lymph nodest, trust me -- lymphoma nodes are obviously very abnormal. Best wishes, and I hope you'll always stay actively involved with your health. ...Read more
An "ana" is a blood test used to screen a person for the possibility of several autoimmune diseases. It is important to remember that this is a screening test and a positive result only indicates more testing may be warranted. No blood test is perfect, and getting to a diagnosis is usually much more complex than drawing blood and looking at a number ...Read more
