Popping: A popping sound during ankle spring does not always signify a significant problem such as a break or tear, but it certainly could represent some type of fracture or ligamentous tear. The question is who cleared you to play and what imaging was done. If your ankle still bothers you i would recommend seeing an orthopedic surgeon for an examination and possibly repeat imaging. I would not go to the er as they are not specialists. ...Read more

I sprained my ankle 5 months ago, and now when i work out I get severe popping noise and slight pain in the same spot. How can i fix this?

Rest.: When you sprained your ankle, did you follow your Doctor's instructions about waiting to bear weight and work out? Even if you're in great shape, when a muscle, ligament, tendon is sprained, it can take several months before they are back to 100%. If you push too much too soon, you can decrease the actual healing that happen. Ease off the work outs and see your Doctor. ...Read more

What kind of ankle sprain would coincide with loud popping and severe pain that feels like being stabbed?

What kind of ankle sprain would coincide with loud popping and severe pain that feels like being stabbed?

A significant one: The "popping" is the tearing of ligaments (hopefully not bone) keep in mind if it is only a sprain, the torn ligaments are attached to bone. Sometimes a sprain of the ankle can entail an avulsion fracture(ligament taking a piece of bone with it) x-rays should be taken with such an injury. If any part of the foot is sore, this should also be x-rayed. Rice-rest, ice, compression, elevation. ...Read more

Ankle Sprain: Painless popping after an ankle sprain is not uncommon. If painful make an appoitment to see an orthopedic surgeon for X-rays and an examination to be performed. It is not uncommon for ankle sprains to take 6-8 weeks to recover from. Hope this helps. Take care. Joe Wilson ...Read more

Upping the odds....: It sounds as though, regardless as to how bad the ankle sprain was on May 2nd, your ankle's condition has just gotten worse. Start treating it as though is was a completely new injury. Say off of it and contact your doctor immediately. If the pain is unbearable, you will need to go to either the emergency room or a nearby urgent care. ...Read more
