Pop Crack Recently
I can always crack my ankles and wrists. It never hurts, just sounds like a popping sound then I rotate them. What causes this?
Crack ankle: This is usually a tendon sort of snapping in and out of the groove in which they travel. Unless they slip out of the groove and do not slip back there is no problem with this. At the ankle forced dorsiflexion and eversion causes the popping sound ...Read more
My ankles and knees pop and crack everytime I stand up or move from a seated position. Is there any way to reverse or stop the popping?
Rib pain: Need to know what happen to your sternum; what evaluation was done (exam, x rays etc); what medication were given etc.; what is your medical history. Ribs fractures are notorious for having lots of pain (maily sharp) which is frustrating. Fracture could take 6 weeks to heal. However, the best way to help is to see your doctor and make sure recovery is going well and nothing new develops. ...Read more
3 weeks ago I injured my wrist, it's fine now but ever since its been grinding and popping everytime I move it, the "crack" is on the pinkie side?
See a doctor: Depending on how you injured your wrist you may have broken a bone in your wrist, or torn a ligament. The popping and grinding is not normal. If the wrist is tender at all I would definitely get an X-ray. Untreated wrist injuries can lead to painful arthritic changes down the road. ...Read more

Can the constant crack/popping from crepitus due to a partial thick rotator cuff tear hinder my recovery? Its been over a year and shoulder still weak
Yes: The term crepitance is usually a symptom we see when patients start getting arthritis in their shoulder. I can snap both my wrists back and I hear a popping sound. What is happening when I do that? Why can't I crack my knuckles repeatedly?
My right shoulder cracks and makes popping sounds everytime I rotate it. It feels like my bones rubbing against each other what does it mean?
Varies: There are multiple potential causes, I would not hesitate to be seen. The three most common causes are a problem with the rotator cuff (which stabilizes the shoulder), or a labral tear (which also helps hold the shoulder in place), or an arthritic condition if the shoulder. An exam and appropriate studies would likely reveal the cause. ...Read more
My son is 13 and his joints pop and crack all the time. Simple movements as walking result in several popping sounds all day long. Is this normal?
Teenagers: Often have joint symptoms related to their rapid rate of growth and relative laxity of their ligaments. If there is no pain, discomfort or limitation of movement, then the popping and cracking is probably nothing to be concerned about. Obesity, even in teenage years can cause damage to joints of the lower extremities, so if obese medical consultation is warranted. ...Read more

Popping and cracking: Can be caused by extra flexible capsules of the joints, trapping the joint fluid in the periphery of the joint and creating low pressure / vaccuum "bubbles" that pop/ implode on certain moves. The are thought to produce small shockwaves that gradually beat up the cartilage surfaces and contribute to developing arhtritis. HI, I'm male 24, why do I feel pain in my joints after I masturbate specially my knee, fingers. .. and they popping and crack alote?
What causes a popping sensation on the left side of my chest and sternum? NO PAIN. Almost feels like when you crack your neck. PCP says heart ok.
Costal cartilage: The most common cause of the popping sensation you describe is separation of the cartilage on the ends of the ribs from the sternum. There are many reasons this can happen but the important fact is that it has no medical significance. Occasionally this condition can be accompanied by pain which is best treated with NSAIDs like Ibuprofen. In the absence of pain there is no need to worry. ...Read more
I heard a loud popping sound in my right hand followed by a crack, my fingers have been numb and I can't close my hand, I was lifting something heavy.
Tendon rupture?: Given the location of pain, I would suspect a tendon rupture—palmaris longus, most likely. It is positioned directly over the median nerve (carpal tunnel nerve) and would be irritated by bleeding associated with a tendon rupture. Symptoms would likely affect the thumb through long/ring fingers. Ice/elevate, ace wrap, and consider hand surgeon evaluation if not improving. Palmaris is not important. ...Read more
Hurt rib 3d ago box. Got X-r, nothing, ER said maybe crack. Back pain near spine lowest ribs, yesterday receded for 6 hours after popping sound, now pain again started during laying in bed. Is it dislocated, treatment?
What you are describing is pretty "classical" for subluxing (partial dislocating) ribs at the posterior cartilage connection with your spine.
UNFORTUNATELY you cannot "splint" your chest (you need to breathe / cough. If the pain is severe an injection may be helpful!
Consult your PCP (Primary Care Provider =) for hands on diagnosis and treatment!
Hope this helps

I head a loud popping sound in my right hand followed by a crack, my fingers have been numb and I can close my hand half way before it starts to hurt?
Go see family doctor: You didn't describe what you were doing when this happened but assuming that you injured yourself, you need an x-ray to look for broken bone (s). At the very least, get evaluated looking for nerve damage. Otoh, many people can "crack their knuckles" w/o any pain. But if it hurts & causes numbness, it's time to get evaluated. Good luck! ...Read more
