Pop A Cystic Pimple
I tried to popped a painful pimple or cystic type acne on the bridge of my nose. I wasn't aware of the term "triangle of death". Should I be worried?
No: I actually got all worked up over this as a first year med student, and it helped me understand others' concerns today. The danger of a cavernous sinus thrombosis as a result of a pimple here is an exaggerated "pop" claim. If you do have acne lesions that are troublesome like this, get / stay on benzoyl peroxide and add what prescription Rx may work. Best wishes ...Read more
I failed popping my cystic pimple. Now it's still got puss, and it's inflamed and purple. Is there a way of treating this at home?
Cystic acne: Popping pimples/cysts not a good idea: can drive infection deeper. Warm-hot compresses can draw cyst to head so it opens on its own & drains. But best treatment is to see dermatologist for definitive care of acne: topical meds + oral antibiotics; possibly accutane-like product if condition is severe. Should also be checked for polycystic ovarian ds by doc. ...Read more

I think I have a cystic pimple, it started small I picked at it and now it's about an inch and a 1/2 across very painful.
Don't ask why: If this is a young person, don't look for an explanation for cystic acne. There's nothing you can change about hygiene, sex, lifestyle, or diet that will make it go away. You will probably need isotretinoin. If you're an adult, it may be a warning of one of the unusual glandular diseases. Usually it never gets explained. Manage it with strong meds. Don't try to solve it non-medically. ...Read more

Edema: Generally the clear fluid that leaks is one of two things: either it's edema (swelling) from the trauma of the pressure or it's fluid from inside the cells that have ruptured. Either way it's an indication that you're applying too much pressure to "pop the pimple". It is not generally recommended to squeeze acne. The pressure can actually cause the infection to go deeper or lead to scarring. ...Read more
Hello, I've been popping a pimple type thing on my back for years now. Large amounts of the white stuff. Starting to itch and bleed a little now.
Stronger Rx: I see that you are already on topical benzoyl peroxide but if you are getting cystic acne, you will probably want something stronger. The oral contraceptive pill (if right for you) or spironolactone are options, or your physician may want to add an antibiotic. If your acne is severe and your are offered isotretinoin, consider it. Best wishes. ...Read more
