Polyurethane Warnings And Recalls
No.: This is inadequate exposure to produce neuropathy.
I have neurophy! Does working once with polyurethane contribute toward this problem? I used to do gym floor re-coatings for many years.
No: While flooring products have been shown to cause neuropathies, you would have needed continuous exposure for years to acquire a neuropathy from them. One exposure usually doesn't cause them. Look into other sources.
Exposure to chemical: Yes. Prolonged or excessive exposure to any of these substances can cause toxicity and illness. Always be careful when you are exposed to chemicals and protect yourself.
Floors were redone in apt below mine with polyurethane. Smell came into my place and was very strong. They said it was safe for me to stay. Was it?
General guidelines: Suggest that those who might be especially affected by fumes--pregnant woman, elderly and sick and young children--should avoid exposure. Brief exposure such as you describe might cause some lung irritation or aggravation of asthma (if you have it) or a headache, but this brief exposure should not have worrisome long term health effects for you. Stay well:)
Wood floors just refinished with oil-based polyurethane. Fumes /smell is horrible. Have two kids under 5. How long should we leave the house?
When tolerable: Air out the house and ask the floor experts for the recommendations the manufacturer has regarding the care of the product used and when to return.
Does smelling polyurethane in a room with it painted/refinished months ago cause miscarriage risk? Is there a diff in danger between freshly painted poly vs poly that has been off gassing for months?
Minimal risk: The medical literature suggests polyurethane fumes can increase miscarriage risk but the risk is not quantified. Because millions of pregnant women have been exposed to these fumes i'd presume the risk is low but in general risks increase with higher degrees of exposure. Freshly painted poly will off-gas more than older poly but the stronger the odor the more you are being exposed. See comment:.See 1 more doctor answer
Was using polyurethane for our kitchen got really sick. Still sob, chest hurts lungs hurt just all around don't feel good. Anything I can do?
Need to get out: The fumes from it can cause trouble breathing, you need to be out of the house for the next couple of days until they dissipate, stay with a friend for 2-3 days and air out the kitchen.
Girlfriend allergic to latex and skinzs condom what about polyurethane and will she be ok just burning and now itch was just in her for brief second?
Rubber: Despite claims to the contrary, both of the condoms contain rubber although one may be less allergenic than the other due to manufacturing process. The problem you may encounter is that your GF may become increasingly allergic to the rubber leading to potentially life-threatening issues. You may consider polyurethane although I am not familiar with its performance stats.
Had wood floors refinished with oil-based polyurethane. Kept kids out of home 3 days, but smell (fumes?) persist, causing headaches in 5-yr-old. WWYD?
Open up house: I would get the kids out of house again if they are symptomatic and open up your windows and doors to allow as much aeration as possible. I'm sure in the long run you will be happy you had he work done, but right now it is difficult to see the forest through the trees. Take it day by day until the fumes resolve.
How much does risk of cancer increase from exposure to polyurethane fumes? When and how should we start screening kids for cancer due to the exposure?
Hard to quantify: Depends on how much exposure, for how long. For typical household refinishing floors and letting things air out before you come back in house, probably pretty hard to say there's a direct link or need for rapid screening. If there is a more prolonged and heavy exposure, would be a good idea to see what you can do to reduce it and consider talking with your kids' doc.
Are polyurethane and polyisoprene condoms just as effective for protection against STD and STI as latex condoms?
Yes: Polyurethane condoms were designed for people allergic to latex. Some people are also allergic to polyurethane and that case they can use polyisoprene condoms. They all prevent the transmission of viruses and bacteria that cause HIV and STD provided they are used properly.See 1 more doctor answer
If family is getting headaches during exposure to recently-refinished wood floors fumes (polyurethane), what should we do? Do headaches= brain damage?
Leave and aerate: Common side effect of polyurethane- leave the premisies. Brain damage would be rare, but possible after prolonged exposure in a confined space.
Classic case DM w/ ILD, after inhalation of polyurethane and concrete dust. Question: Can these inhaled substances be cleared from lungs/ body? How?
?: I am not aware of any methods to remove.
LMP was 8/30-9/6. I had sex with my boyfriend a few times since then, didn't really keep track with my cycle but used a polyurethane condom and he pulled out. I never started my period but have been feeling crampy and having back and abd. Pain mainly on t
Do a pregnancy test: Also, some folks may want to do a STD screen
