Polymyxin B Sulfate And Trimethoprim Ophthalmic
Not usually: Antibiotics are generally ineffective for treatment of stye or chalazion, which are caused by blockage of oil ducts, not by infection. The best treatment for stye is warm compresses and lid scrubs with baby shampoo to unblock the oil gland and allow it to drain.See 3 more doctor answers
Is a rash on the chest a sign of an allergic reaction to Polymyxin B Sulfate and Trimethoprim Ophthalmic Solution?
Unlikely: It's unlikely that the ophthalmic eye solution caused the rash on the chest. The medication is not systemic. Please see you doctor for the rash.
Inner vs Outer: If this an inner ear infection then the antibiotic ointment will not be helpful. I recommend making an appointment with your PCP or an ENT to see if you have an infection. If you have already been diagnosed with 'otitis media' commonly referred to as an inner ear infection then the ointment will not help. Good luck to youSee 1 more doctor answer
I got conjunctivitis (not severe, just beginning), how long would it be until the redness goes away on trimethoprim polymyxin B ophthalmic eye drops.?
If I used polytrim (polymyxin b and trimethoprim) in eye last month and got pink eye again this month I used polytrim (polymyxin b and trimethoprim) again would that be considered prolonged use?
No: However, recurrent eye infections should make you wonder why this is happening. If you are a contact lens user, perhaps there is a problem with your lens hygiene. Also, this time of year allergic conjunctivitis is common and can simulate or bring on infection. Finally, be sure to clean your eyelashes and lids daily with a washcloth and warm water.
No: No it is not. Sulfate is not the same as sulfa.
No: Styes are not infections. Those are antibiotics. This is a common misconception. Warm compresses are the main treatment for styes.
My two year old was treated with polymyxin b sulfate and trimethoprim. He developed hives all over within five hours. What caused this?
Many causes of hives: A 2 year old with hives 5 hours after taking polymyxin and trimethoprim. Hives most commonly occur in kids because of an underlying viral infection. If there is an allergy to a medication, the hives would usually occur within 30 min to an hour after ingestion. The hives could have been related to either medication. See pediatrician or allergist if not resolving with antihistamines
Infection: These are antibiotics used to treat or prevent infection
Can I use neomycin sulfate and polymyxin b sulfate if I'm allergic to bactrim (sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprim)? I know sulfates are different from sulfonamides but wanted to check
Yes: Those are two different chemicals, so use freely.
My 2 yr old is on polymyxin b sulfate and trimethoprim antibiotics eye drop if we don't finish it will it cause a super infection later?
No: A stye is usually not an infection but a tender swelling of a gland in the eyelid. Also called a chalazion. The treatment is warm compresses and sometimes injection or excision with surgery. Drops and ointments don't much but occasionally I would use a topical antibiotic but it would not be polytrim (polymyxin b and trimethoprim).See 1 more doctor answer
No: This is an antibiotic drop with two agents in it, neither of which is a sulfa.
Sulfates not sulfa: Polytrim (polymyxin b and trimethoprim) contains sulfates. A patient history of allergic reaction to sulfa drugs should not exclude polytrim (polymyxin b and trimethoprim) as a treatment. There seems to be no correlation between trimethoprim sulfate and sulfa sensitivity. However, one can be allergic to anything. Check with your treating doctor.
