Can allergen sprays really work in controlling dust mite allergy symptoms?

Unfortunately, no: To truly decrease dust mite symptoms, several measures are needed including encasements over bedding, hot water washing, reducing humidity and no carpet or frequent vacuuming. Some sprays kill mites, others denature mite proteins, but by themselves they are not sufficient to decrease symptoms. ...Read more

Mixed rhinitis: Sounds like perennial mixed rhinitis with both allergic and non-allergic triggers. Evidenced based medicine says topical nasal steroid spray is primary treatment, topical or oral antihistamines next and possibly montelukast (singular). Can montelukast become an alternative of allergens immunotherapy for perenial allergic rhinitis ?

Can montelukast become an alternative of allergens immunotherapy for perenial allergic rhinitis ?

Not really: I suggest 3 steps to controlling allergies : 1) avoid the things you are allergic to. 2) take medications to control the symptoms. 3) get 'allergy shots' (immunotherapy) to teach your body to not be "allergic" to those things (immune tolerance). Using a leukotriene antagonist control the symptoms some, but it is not the most effective medication, and is not an equal alternative to immunotherapy. ...Read more

Are allergies worse around bees because of pollen?

Are allergies worse around bees because of pollen?

Not really: Bees generally don't make pollen allergies worse, but people can be allergic to bee stings. Bee sting allergy is due to an allergy to the insect venom injected during a sting. The pollens that bees transport while gathering nectar from flowers are from predominantly insect-pollinated plants, and these pollens don't cause allergy symptoms. Wind pollinated plants generally cause allergy symptoms. ...Read more

2nd opinion: I presumed you have had a workup by an allergist who has instructed you on the proper technique on the nasal spray and you have followed the instructions on avoidance measures. Have you tried Dymista or singulair (montelukast) yet? And yes, hormone can affect nasal congestion being most evident in some women during pregnancy. I would seek a 2nd opinion from another allergist if symptoms remain uncontrolled. ...Read more

Is non-allergic rhinitis common in asthma? cough and mild wheezing are the only symptoms of asthma. No allergies- constant runny nose

So if your lungs are weak in something like asthma it would be likely that you'd also have a runny nose. It means that you need some strengthening of your lungs, and you should probably quit smoking. ...Read more
