Poked Head With Rusty Nail Bleeding
No tdap shot also stepped by rusty stairs or rusty spots with cracked open split skin red thats hurts in between toe worry about tetanus ?
I doubt it ...: but maybe there are a few too many uncommon events for comfort: open skin, rusty spots, etc. The signs and symptoms of tetanus (lock jaw) are not pain where it entered but muscle spasms, jaw cramping, trouble swallowing etc. But I think a prompt doctor visit is warranted in any case for a brief exam and updating your tetanus vaccine at a minimum. Call today/now. Good wishes:) ...Read more
Very darkly discolored finger nail from puncture wound between nail & cuticle. Will i lose nail? How to protect finger tip til nail regrows?
Nail bruising: After trauma to nail, it one can get a pooling of blood under the nail (subungual hematoma) which gives the nail a purple/maroon discoloration. If injury is recent and there is pain, please see dermatologist right away. It may be necessary to drain the blood from under nail. Whether nail will be lost depends on how much trauma and how much blood presses on junction between nail plate and bed. ...Read more
Trimmed toenails-noticed dark grey raised spot next to big toenail-slight pain, think it was ingrown nail. Trimmed off spot of skin, it bled a bit, blood went deep, and a tiny bit of clear liquid (pus?). Cleaned w/isop. alcohol + bandaid. Infected?
Probably: It does sound like an ingrown toenail, which usually does involve infection. The corner of the nail grows into the skin edge and burrows in causing infection. If it is mild, you can sometimes keep the nail edge elevated out of the skin and it can grow past the area. If that does not work, probably would be good to be seen. ...Read more

Bloody puncture at top of thumb, blood under nail, from a fork. Washed immediately, 6 times with soap+alcohol+betadine. How can I tell if infected?
When there's pus: Depending on what was on the fork, and the fact that it's metal, means making sure that you've had a tetanus booster. Also, with the puncture you are going to experience pain and throbbing. So if there's any signs of swelling or inflammation, or the skin is red, it needs medical attention. If it's a deep puncture, and you irrigated and applied soap, you still may need to see a doctor to start oral antibiotics. ...Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers

Infection: There could be concern of infection with a puncture wound on your foot. There could be a simple skin infection like a staph infection, but there could be concern for something more severe like tetanus. Had infections at nailbed & ingrown nail. saw podiatrist for ingrown nail 6 mth ago nail now yellow & broken. Will it grow out? Can I use fake nail?
Nail regrowth: As long as the nailbed has not been damaged or removed, nails should regrow with time (lots of time). Sometimes the new growth is characterized by discoloration or distortion, and this is usually permanent. Occlusion of the exposed nailbed with artificial nails and chemicals may further damage the nailbed and inhibit any new growth that might occur. ...Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers

Poked by thumbtack at work, squeezed blood out&immediately applied iodine tincture bp, no rust on thumbtack, havent had tetanus shot, risk of tetanus?
A wound is a wound: Tetanus is possible when any cut on the skin is contaminated by tetanus spores that are all around, predominantly in soils. It doesn't matter what made the cut if the exposure comes after the skin is open. The rusty nail is the classic source because it is on the ground to begin with when people step on it. Even if low risk it serves as a reminder to update your protection. If >10 yrs get the shot ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

Small(not deep) puncture wound on side of big toe from clean piece of metal. Flushed it & antibio ointment. Last Tetanus in '09. Do I need another?
No: Your prior booster in 09 will have you covered. If you had dragged your open wound through a lot of soil and debris, and left it untended over a long period, it might be a benefit to some.
