Yes: Pneumonia can definitely be contagious but it varies depending on what type of bacteria or virus is causing the lung infection and whether the patient has been on the appropriate antibiotic for the infection. Most viral respiratory infections can't be treated with antibiotics (except "real influenza" can be treated in the first 48 hrs with tamiflu). Always with caution: Walking pneumonia was used as a term, i believe , for mycoplasma infection. The idea of treatment is usually 5 days they're ok or 48 hours of antibiotics with no more fever. People don't always respond the same. People of good immune system have protection but we all get infections one way or another.
