Treatment no cure.: There is treatment for pmdd (premenstrual dysphoric disorder). The recognized treatment at this time is with antidepressants that boost serotonin in the system. This would include Prozac or generic fluoxetine. Also, may take Prozac just for one to two weeks to help. Would consult a psychiatrist. As there ar other things that can also help along with the antidepressant such as an anti anxiety pill.

How much research has been done on sam-e for pmdd?

Zero published: Some women do use sam-e for pmdd, but so far there is no published clinical research documenting effectiveness. Using it for this condition would be empirical, based on studies showing that sam-e is associated with increased serotonin turnover and elevated Dopamine and norepinephrine levels in the brain. Antidepressants have similar results, and have shown effectiveness in pmdd.

Resulting in drop in level of functioning and interpersonal conflicts. It is a treatable.

Consider medication: And psychotherapy. If you are feeling like hurting yourself or someone else, and live in a high stress home, you need to get help ASAP. If you are not having PMS now, call and make an appointment with a psychiatrist as soon as they can see you. If you are in crisis, go to an emergency room to start treatment before you do harm to yourself or others.
