Would kroger brand xtra strength pain relief pm be a good over-the-counter drug to take for my knee replacement instead of vicoden?

Would kroger brand xtra strength pain relief pm be a good over-the-counter drug to take for my knee replacement instead of vicoden?

Possibly: Kroger brand xtra strength pain relief is acetaminophen, which is essentially tylenol. It may be weaker for pain than vicodin, but you will likely have less side effects than the vicodin if you are sensitive to narcotics. If the pain is not severe, I would go with the tylenol. Motrin and Ibuprofen are good over the counter options, but I would not take it constantly for a long time. ...Read more

My pm doctor wants to switch me from Methadone to Nucynta (tapentadol) for fibromyalgia pain relief. I'm also taking Cymbalta. I don't feel like Nucynta (tapentadol) will work?

Research suggests: That use of narcotics in fibromyalgia may be a bad choice in the end and drugs such as Cymbalta, Savella, (milnacipran) and Lyrica offer better longterm success. Yet, the Methadone needs to be handled, and a better switch at this stage would involve suboxone. I agree with you, going to Nucynta may not be a wise decision. Will I get more pain relief from nerve pain if I use a combination of both drugs like elavil and Lyrica, (pregabalin) than if I used just one?

Most likely: Since they attack "nerve" pain by different mechanisms then there is a potential for additive benefit. They are often used in combination for that purpose.

I am bipolar1. Take Saphris, (asenapine) Lamictal and Lithium. A dr. Prescribed Ultram for pain relief. Could Ultram cause mania or interact with my psych drugs?

Not big risk: Ultram increases serotonin like some antidepressants so it could be a trigger for mania, but if you're on lithium the risk of this is low. Almost all psych drugs are listed as "CNS depressants" meaning they can make you sleepy or reduce brain function in some people. As is Ultram. And adding another one increases the risk of sedation, but in a young otherwise healthy person the risk is low. ...Read more
