Urine (Definition)

Urine is the product of the kidneys, which is produced to eliminate the waste products of metabolism, manage body fluid balance, &maintain acid-base balance. The blood is first filtered by the kidneys, and the composition of the resulting fluid is then altered depending on the body's needs. It is composed of mostly water, and breakdown products from blood cells impart ...Read more

I had urinalysis done and 30 plus protein is in urine and back pain. What could cause protein in urine? Kidney failure?

Many things: This test detects normal amounts of albumin frequently as 30 mg/dl. I suggest a first morning void, if elevated then check a protein/creatinine ratio. Nephrology consultation may be needed, Causes, glomerulonephritis, interstitial disease, myeloma, infectin, nephrotic syndrome, diabetes, hypertension. A long list requiring medical attention to sort

How serious is protein in urine? I know years ago they found some during urinalysis. I frequently pee and itch often. Pcp ordered 24 hr urine collect

Usually nothing: Most people will occasionally have small amounts of protein in a routine urinalysis. A long as the amount is small (1+ or trace) and not persistent, it's probably nothing. If there is a large amount, may indicate something more serious. 24 hour urine will more accurately quantify the amount of protein.

What are considered dangerously high levels of protein in urine during a 24 hour collection during pregnancy?

What are considered dangerously high levels of protein in urine during a 24 hour collection during pregnancy?

Pregnant proteinuria: Preeclampsia (p) is a syndrome affecting multiple organs and diagnosed by presence of high blood pressure along with loss of protein in urine (> 300 mg per day). If the woman has this level after 20 weeks of pregnancy, it could be a sign of p developing. If this level is found before 20 weeks, it may be due from a pre-existing condition.

2+protein in urine for an athlete? Is it normal? Why?

Possibly: Could be orthostatic proteinuria, which is when protein spills into the urine later in the day. You need to get your first morning urine checked-it should be free of protein regardless of your athletic status.

What does 2+ protein in urine mean in relation to lupus?

Need more info: It may mean nothing or it may be significant. You need 24 hour urine collections to quantitate to amount of protein excreted as well as a precise measurement of kidney function. You also need an examination of the urine sediment to look for abnormalities there. Speak with your rheumatologist.

Immediate physicial: Exam. High urine protein can indicate kidney problems or hyperporteinemia. You will need a repeat urine analysis and a 24 hour urine collection for protein analysis, Please consult a nephrologist.

Is +1 protein in urine and leu +2 high? Or slight?

Is +1 protein in urine and leu +2 high? Or slight?

Depends: What type of urine sample was taken? If you only have results from a urine dipstick test and there is a concern for infection or other issue a better test would be a urinalysis with culture. The more sterile the sample the better

How many miligrams is equivalent to 2+ range of protein in urine and what is this a sign of?

100mg/dL: 2+ proteinuria is equal to 0.5-1.0 gm protein loss in 24 hours. It is generally as sign of renal glomerular damage. This degree of proteinuria ought to be addressed with your doctor to start intervention to prevent further kidney damage.

What causes protein in urine?

What causes protein in urine?

Protein in urine: A small amount of protein in the urine is not unusual but it is not detected by a urinalysis. The number one concern for the finding of urine is kidney disease. Other causes include urinary tract infection and inflammation of the urinary lining like a kidney stone. Www. Peedoc. Com @drhtay.

What causes of protein in urine?

What causes of protein in urine?

Cause protein/urine: There are three ways protein enters the urine.1due to overload of protein in the serum called overflow protenuria 2due to decrese in absorption in proximal tubule of kidneys 3due to disease in the glomerulus. It can be caused by biological like Avastin (bevacizumab) used in cancer, and some drugs like nonsteroidal analgesics or drinking more than 4 liters of liquids in a day.High fever, chf, sle, diabetes&hypertensi.

What are considered high levels of protein in urine?

What are considered high levels of protein in urine?

Proteinuria: Protein is normally not found in urine. The usual system used to quantify protein is 0, trace, and then 1+ to 4+. So there is a source of protein in the urine and the meaning of this needs to be looked at with any other lab abnormalities, signs/symptoms, clinical context.

Do chia seeds cause protein in urine?

Do chia seeds cause protein in urine?

Haven't seen that: Reported. Possible side effects from chia include ^ gas (flatus), bloating ; constipation (w inadequate hydration). Because of omega 3 fatty acids, use of Aspirin or blood thinners could be problematic. What causes protein in urine and low bun?

Proteinuria, low BUN: Proteinuria (p) needs to be quantified. This can be done with a 24 hour urine collection that will measure p as well as the renal function of a patient. Blood work (bw) will need to be taken. If the p > 1 gram/day, and bw does not give the p's cause, a kidney biopsy may be needed. Low BUN levels may be reflection of a low protein intake or over-hydration. See a nephrologist for more info.

How come my 5 year old have protein in urine?

How come my 5 year old have protein in urine?

Proteinuria: Protein found in one urine sample is usually not a cause for concern. When this happens, the test must be repeated, preferably with a first morning urine sample. In the majority of cases, the follow up urinalysis will be negative for protein. I would have the repeat test done first before I started to worry.

What to do if I have blood and protein in urine!?

What to do if I have blood and protein in urine!?

Concern kidneys...: The presence of both in urine leads to considering some forms of kidney disease. Again, a good history, serial urinalysis, blood test for kidney function, and renal ultrasound will be sufficient to follow such condition safely. But, at times, ct.Ivp and cystoscopy may be required. Of course, the detail of care should be individualized. So, go to talk and work with your attending physician.

What are the causes of blood and protein in urine?

Kidney disease?: Blood in the urine could be from any part of the urinary system- kidney, ureters, bladder or urethra. But a combination of blood and protein in the urine should make one suspect kidney disease. Have your doctor check your kidney function and quantify how much protein you are losing in the urine.

Does protein in urine always mean kidney dysfunction?

Does protein in urine always mean kidney dysfunction?

No: It is possible to have isolated proteinuria in which case there is protein in the urine (no greater than 3g/24h) but no other abnormalities in urine or blood tests, as well as no symptoms associated with kidney problems and a normal physical exam. It is a diagnosis of exclusion.

Trace of blood and protein in urine what does that mean?

Need to repeat: If you had your period when urinalysis was done, it could have contaminated the urine sample and you should repeat the test. If this not the case, the urinalysis should still be repeated. If the blood and protein is persistent and more than trace, you should see a nephrologist who can microscopically analyze blood to see if source is kidney. If so, you should be evaluated for glomerulonephritis.
