I was playing soccer 3 weeks ago and was kicked just above ankle, bruising gone but still swollen/tender, should I be worried?
Probably Not: Contusions in this area often lead to a hematoma (collection of blood) which may be slow to resolve. Provided there is not any pain, the patient may return to activity as tolerated, taking care to protect the area with a pad/shell to prevent re-injury. ...Read more

My big toe has been swollen, red & sore for months. Doc thought fungal. Lost nail. 3 mts of terbinafine not helped. Pain persists. I play soccer!
Soccer toe: Pain under the toe nail can be due to worn out or poorly fitting soccer boots. Make sure you are fitted and padding the top of the toe can definitely help. Losing a nail due to a subungual (beneath the nail) hematoma is not that uncommon. Should these fail, see your doctor. ...Read more
3 months ago I was playing soccer and someone stepped on my foot. My big toe and the middle toe became purple and were swollen. I applied ice and rested?
Treat broken toe: If there is a suspicion of broken toe, besides ice and rest, you can consider taping the injured toe to it's neighbor, "buddy tape" Use a guaze or cotton between the toes and use bandage adhesive to secure the two together, do this for up to 6 weeks to ensure bone healing, and if the bone is not broken, just pain subside. ...Read more
I got bruising on my right side of upper leg when I was knocked down while playing soccer. It has been a week still not recover yet? What should I do?
Give it more time:
If you are functional (doesn't hurt to move or play sports) and you're still noticing bruising, just give it more time. A larger bruise may take more than a week to resolve (and you may notice the bruise moving down your leg a little, this is normal as the blood settles).
If it's still very tender or impairing you, get it checked. ...Read more
She hurt her foot playing soccer, landing awkwardly. The pain is on the top / outside of her foot. There is really no swelling or bruising. It doesn't hurt to the touch. She can walk, but says she still has some pain. Does she need an x-ray?
How recent was this?: It would be unusual to have a fracture in the absence of swelling or bruising. That said, occasionally stress fractures can cause pain that is worse with running/activity and walking but with minimal or no swelling or bruising. If the injury happened recently the best thing to do is take a few days or a week off of playing and ice for 20 minutes followed by heat (after 48-72 hours with ice only.) ...Read more
Bruising & incr pain: The real concern is whether or not the toe has sustained a fracture. Signs and symptoms of a fracture would be increasing swelling, bruising (broken bones bleed), and pain or crepitance (crunching sound) would all suggest possibility of a broken bone. If pain does not improve overnight, an orthoapedic evaluation may be warranted. X-rays would definitively confirm absence or presence of a fracture. ...Read more

I got kicked in the shin while playing soccer & may have had shin splints. I now for two weeks have had bruising swelling pain. Should I be worried?
Shin bruise: If you were kicked hard enough then a bruise or swelling is normal. A fracture is a possibility, but that would most likely hurt when you stand on the leg. An X-ray would be a good idea, and you should start with your primary physician for that. Unless you do have a fracture there is little that an orthopedic consultation could do. This may take 6-8 weeks to completely resolve. ...Read more

It's possible you've fractured your fibula, which is the thin bone on the outside of your lower leg. If you haven't seen your doctor about this problem yet, I would recommend that you do so. An x-ray would determine whether you have a fracture; if that study is normal, you can treat your "soft tissue injury" (hematoma, contusion, etc.) with alternating ice and heat packs, range of motion exercises, over-the-counter pain medications (acetaminophen, ibuprofen, naproxen), and rest.
