Diagnosis: Platelet transfusions are not recommended if counts are above 50,000/uL unless brain or eye surgery is expected. Other contraindications include TTP(thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura) HIT(heparin induced thrombocytopenia), not useful for ITP(autoimmune thrombocytopenic purpura). Indications are for dysfunctional platelets and active bleeding, and counts below 10,000/uL. ...Read more

My relative had a blood transfusion during the surgery. So could i be able to donate blood/platelets?

My relative had a blood transfusion during the surgery. So could i be able to donate blood/platelets?

Already done & yes: The operative transfusion is done. Some blood centers allow patient to have volunteers donate on their behalf to reduce the bill for the blood products (kinda by replacing the stock of them). Worth asking about, but donation is always a good thing, especially in summer months as donors go on vacation and more people get active, hurt, and need blood! ...Read more

What could be causing high platelet count of 900, anaemia after iron infusion 4 weeks ago and two blood transfusions two weeks ago. ?

Bone marrow problem: Two possibilities: 1. You have iron-deficiency (why? Are you having GI bleeding? Gastric bypass? ) and your platelets are high as an inflammatory response, or 2. You have essential thrombocytosis or another bone marrow problem. Given your age, my vote is for #1. See a hematologist for more answers! ...Read more

My husband in last stage off liver failure and hep c. He is bleeding out had many blood transfusion,platelets.cancer. how long for test see what stage?

See Hepatologist: Your husband has a serious set of medical problems, end-stage liver failure from hepatitis C complicated by portal hypertension from cirrhosis and liver cancer. I suggest that he see a liver specialist, a hepatologist, to care for his condition and assess options - with a background of alcohol abuse, he might not be a liver transplant candidate but there may be other options. So if DX is in question then return to uk for more accurate DX may help, but only if he is "stable' for travel. ...Read more
