Very unlikely: I'm not an endocrinologist, but I can tell you that pituitary tumors are very rare. Without symptoms (& your visual fields are normal, no lab abnormalities, I presume without daily persistent headaches), I would put your odds even lower for macroadenoma (large tumor). Small tumors that release hormones should cause other symptoms like diabetes, blood pressure, &c. At your age, I wouldn't worry.

Pituitary Disorders (Definition)

The pituitary is a gland in brain. It produces different hormones that help with various bodily functions (reproduction, body temperature control, blood pressure, growth, cognition). A disorder of pituitary can affect one or some or all of hormones and cause excess hormonal production or loss of hormonal production. A person with pituitary disorder should be under ...Read more

What symptoms are associated with pituitary tumors?

What symptoms are associated with pituitary tumors?

Visual & endocrine: Any tumor of the pituitary may affect the optic nerve and produces visual disturbances. The endocrine symptoms depend on the cell type involved and if it makes a hormone. If the tumor does not make hormones it causes deficiency of thyroid, adrenal and gonadal hormones. Excess production of hormone may cause hyperthyroidism and cushing syndrome etc.

I was wondering what are symptoms of pituitary tumors?

I was wondering what are symptoms of pituitary tumors?

Variable: Most folks will have visual changes as the swelling in that area can compress the optic chiasma(the nerves that control vision). Sometimes there can be headache, most often it is hormonal changes which will cause generalised effects on your body due to hormonal disturbances.

Can the symptoms and side effects of a pituitary tumor be cured by removing the tumor?

Sometimes: About 80-85% of patients will have a cure from resection of their pituitary tumor. Unfortunately the remaining patients will have remnant symptoms from the tumor or recurrent tumor with recurrent symptoms over the upcoming years. Please fully discuss with your neurosurgeon.

What are the symptoms of a pituitary tumor?

Subtle: Cuts in the visual field that you won't notice until someone checks you with one eye closed. A woman's periods stopping or becoming irregular. Milk production perhaps. Lost libido. Headaches -- sometimes sudden and catastrophic. Needing bigger gloves. Just feeling run down and being called "neurotic". Weight gain / diabetes / hypertension / moods that get blamed on "lifestyle." bad tumor to miss.

What symptoms would U normally have w/ pituitary tumor besides added height (over 35)? Can tumor go unnoticed for decade or would there be some signs?

What symptoms would U normally have w/ pituitary tumor besides added height (over 35)? Can tumor go unnoticed for decade or would there be some signs?

You won't: Have a significant height increase with a growth hormone secreting pituitary tumor in adulthood because the bone growth plates are closed. Acromegaly is the clinical syndrome. There are other types of hormone secreting pituitary tumors that have various symptoms related to the hormones involved. Some don't affect hormones, but can cause symptoms due to their size or propensity to hemorrhage.

What are signs and symptoms of pituitary tumors?

What are signs and symptoms of pituitary tumors?

Depends: Hi. Pituitary tumors are generally benign tumors that produce signs and symptoms by either mass effect and/or hormone production.Mass effect can cause headache, difficulty seeing peripheral visual fields, or destruction of adjacent normal pituitary tissue. Tumors that produce hormones cause classic syndromes. Your endocrinologist will do a diagnostic evaluation and recommend treatment if indicated

How are the symptoms of pcos and pituitary tumor distinguished from each other?

Many: Pcos usually results in abnormal hair growth and infertility and is frequently seen in obese women. Pituitary tumors can cause vision problems if they are enlarged, or hormone problems if they are hormone secreting. The symptoms vary based on the hormone.

Would extremely low estrogen and headaches behind my eyes be a symptom of pituitary tumor?

Would extremely low estrogen and headaches behind my eyes be a symptom of pituitary tumor?

Unlikely: While you can get pituitary hormone abnormalities with tumors of the gland, your symptoms most likely have a source outside of the head.

Does a pituitary tumor cause lightheadedness, headache and blurry vision and increased floaters? What are the symptoms?

Possible: You obviously need an examination with visual field testing by your eyecare physician. With that data doc could address your questions. Pituitary tumors require medical team approach. Not internet info.

Is Acromelagy always due a pituitary tumor?

No: Diagnosing acromegaly involves 2 blood tests that measure level of insulin-like growth factor-1 (IGF-1) and oral glucose tolerance t\ (OGTT). Difficult to test level of growth hormone (GH) in acromegaly. Scan of head performed to confirm presence an adenoma in pituitary gland. If no tumor detected, a CT scan of abdomen and pelvis looks for tumors of adrenal, pancreas or pvary producing GH

What causes pituitary tumors?

What causes pituitary tumors?

Unknown.: There are malignant and non-malignant pituitary tumors, some that produce hormones, some that don't. Some cause problems because of their size and relationship to the optic chiasm and can cause visual problems and headaches. Causes of pituitary tumors are unknown.

How do we treat pituitary tumors?

It depends.: Often a first step is tumor removal (and obtaining a biopsy specimen), now frequently performed as an endoscopic surgery through the sinuses, usually done by both an ENT surgeon and a neurosurgeon. Tumors which make pituitary hormones may shrink or stabilize with oral medication. Large or aggressive tumors may require targeted radiation therapy, e.g. Cyber knife, after (or instead of) surgery.

Are all pituitary tumors the same?

Tough question: Tumors of the pituitary vary almost as much as the type of people who ask questions to health tap. Think of the pituitary as an attachment of the brain that receives information and sends messages in the form of hormones throughout the body. Abnormal growths can occur within and around this gland as well as excessive growth due to too much or too little information and hormone in and output.

Why are pituitary tumors so common?

1 in 5: Almost 20% may have pituitary tumors but most will remain undetected as they do not cause any symptoms. Those that grow large enough to cause symptoms due to size or secrete enough of one of many hormones that the pituitary normally secretes may need to be treated with medicines or surgery. Prognosis is generally good. Visit: http://www.Ncbi.Nlm.Nih.Gov/pubmedhealth/pmh0001723/.
