What does the pituitary gland normally do, and what are the usual symptoms of pituitary cancer?

A sign of a large pituitary tumor is loss of peripheral (sideway) vision, that is, when you look straight ahead, you cannot see what on your sides. Pituitary tumors are not cancerous, they are benign. ...Read more

Vision going blurry is a pituitary gland tumour symptom which I have but when put my glasses on everything is clear again is this because of the tumor?

Likely not: Your description matches a refractive error or standard type of glasses prescription need. Examples: myopia (nearsightedness), hyperopia (farsightedness), and/or astigmatism. Pituitary related deficits do not clear with the application of glasses & are generally a type of bitemporal visual field defects (decreased vision out to both sides). Have these vision defects evaluated by your eye MD. ...Read more

I have a Pituitary gland tumour that is 7mm is that large? It is benign, is this life threatening only symptom I have had is no period

Microadenoma: Hi. A pituitary tumor up 10 mm in diameter is a microadenoma (a macro adenoma if diameter is 11 mm or greater). It sounds as if it is a functioning tumor (secretes a hormone), since your periods have stopped. The most likely would be a prolactinoma (an adenoma that secretes prolactin). They are NOT like threatening. ACTH-secreting adenomas also halt periods. Your doc will discuss treatment options ...Read more

Would doctors remove a 5mm non secreting adenoma on pituitary gland if it is causing symptoms such as anxiety and chronic pain with no relief w meds?

Would doctors remove a 5mm non secreting adenoma on pituitary gland if it is causing symptoms such as anxiety and chronic pain with no relief w meds?

Please forgive me: Your pituitary adenoma isn't the cause of your anxiety or chronic pain. Fixate on it, and you'll never find or address the real causes. Lots of people have these little things. As a young man, I was in a series of difficult living situations that affected how I felt without there being any organic pathology; with a doctor's 20/20 hindsight I recovered thanks to escaping and learning new skills. ...Read more

Well....: I am an ENDOCRINOLOGIST, and you do have a pituitary Macro-Adenoma. The quality of your films on-line is not optimal. This is not a simple entity. You should be taken care of at a medical center with a great neurosurgeon, or at least a well trained endocrinologist. You need a series or laboratory tests... SOON!! ...Read more

Second opinion : A pediatric neuroradiologist should take a look at the mri. If images of the pituitary weren't specifically ordered, then this becomes a less sensitive test because the "cuts" through the pituirary images are too big to get a good look. Also, teenage pituitaries are supposed to be larger than those of adults because of all the activity going on there relative to puberty and growth. ...Read more
