I been taking 50mg a night of amitripyline for 2 months. Can it give pins and needles around my small finger and hand.

Not directly: This is not a direct side effect, but sounds like you may be sleeping more soundly, and when you compress a nerve, you may not awaken as rapidly and change position. So, a secondary problem. But have your doctor see if you now have an ulnar neuropathy. ...Read more

Over the past few days, my middle finger on my right hand has pins and needles sensation and feels numb in the tip when I touch or move it?Please help

See a doctor: Tingling often means a nerve is irritated. Tingling in the middle finger may be caused by a nerve problem in one of several places, but a pinched nerve in the neck and carpal tunnel syndrome are the most common reasons. A neurologist can help you figure out what the cause is and whether or not something worrisome is going on. ...Read more

Pain in my neck then had pins and needles in right hand and constant nerve twitching with all my fingers?

Nerve: You may have a cervical radiculopathy or "pinched" nerve root in the neck. An emg/nerve conduction study can be helpful and is a test offered my most neurologists and physical medicine providers. As well, MRI of the c-spine can be helpful as well. Talk to your doctor. ...Read more

Numbness in fingers I have had numbness and a pins-and-needles sensation in my right hand and fingers for several weeks now. What kind of doctor should I see?

Numbness in fingers I have had numbness and a pins-and-needles sensation in my right hand and fingers for several weeks now. What kind of doctor should I see?

Numbnesss : Numbnesss and tingling can be caused by issues directly related to the hand , wrist and upper extremity but there can also be indirect or systemic issues that can cause this. While carpal tunnel syndrome is common and a hand surgeon or orthopedic surgeon takes care of this, the other issues, circulation, referred pain, neck causes, nerve issues not related to compression, other types of nerve compression, arthritis, trauma, and a host of other issues including medications you are taking can come in to play. While a hand surgeon may be well versed to care for this, if you have a primary care physician do not leave them out of the loop. If you r pcp agrees then a hand surgeon or an orthopedic or plastic surgeon who takes care of hand issues can be very helpfulto anyone with numbness or tingling in one hand. ...Read more

I dislocted my middle finger (middle joint) A sports trainer put it back into place. now I have pins and needles in the palm of my hand, is this norma?

Timing of symptoms: The palm is innervated by the median and ulnar nerves. Depending on how the finger dislocation was treated (manipulation around the wrist), there may be some local nerve irritation. If the symptoms get worse you should see a neurologist. http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/ency/article/000691.htm , http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/ency/article/000789.htm ...Read more

25f frequent back pains and spontaneous numbness in arm/hand/fingers/feet & toes! when i press on my lower spin above my butt crack it feels like pins and needles?

Sounds like nerve: Most likely condition would be a pinched nerve. The nerves that supply the feet stem from nerve branches traveling from the leg. The "pinch" could be from the back at its root, but it an also be locally due to musculature. Another thing to be checked is circulation because if blood flow is hampered to a an area, it can cause pain and reduce function in the nerves. Get checked properly. ...Read more

Pins and needles/numb rt ring finger/ 2 wks. Saw dr after 4 days and was told not to worry "numb is normal" Should I go back? What could it be?

Pins and needles/numb rt ring finger/ 2 wks. Saw dr after 4 days and was told not to worry "numb is normal" Should I go back? What could it be?

Not "normal": Of course, it is not normal, but may be minor. Only ring finger? If so, which side? (Digital nerves in fingers supply one or the other side of finger.) If only one finger and only one side then the problem is in the palm of the hand or at base of the finger. If more is involved then problem could involve ulnar or median nerve (either of which may supply the ring finger). ...Read more
