Have Medial Meniscus tear w/ cyst wearing hinged knee brace but calf is very painful What should I do?

Have Medial Meniscus tear w/ cyst wearing hinged knee brace but calf is very painful What should I do?

How helpful is brace: If the brace is the source of the calf pain, but helps the knee, then an adjustment to the brace (size, fit, etc.) could be considered. Alternatively, a new brace could be utilized. Personally, I don't routinely use braces for meniscal tears unless there is a ligament tear as well or associated arthritis with a misaligned knee. Seek additional help if the brace is not the cause of the calf pain. ...Read more

Sprained ankle 10mnths ago, still pain on weightbearing, but no instability.Mri(5mnths back)said 2 torn ligaments.Did extensive pt exs, bracing.Stil pain?

Have it evaluated.: Pain may last a long time following a foot or ankle injury. An x-ray can show if there is an underlying fracture. You may have a soft tissue injury if it is just a sprain and may have damaged the muscle, tendon, or ligaments in the area. Have it evaluated by a professional and get the appropriate treatment. If the pain has not improved with conservative measures surgery may be a good option. ...Read more

Acl knee brace should I wear one to prevent twisting?

Not really: An acl brace has not been shown to prevent any rotation in the knee. It really only prevents stress on the mcl or lcl ligaments. A patient without an acl can still injury the meniscus and cartilage while wearing a brace. Furthermore, many braces inhibit the quad muscles, further worsening some symptoms. ...Read more

30. Feel knee pop or snap around/from knee sometimes when turning foot out. MRI Dx w/chondromalacia. Told patellar maltrack. Recovery time? Any advice

Variable: The recovery time can vary from weeks to years. Chondromalacia implies long-term, often irreversible damage to the cartilage that covers the bone. However, symptoms can improve or even disappear. If your patella is not tracking properly, then I recommend a physical therapy program, patellar stabilizing brace and rest from activities that worsen symptoms. Also, update/improve athletic footwear. ...Read more

Had 1st degree MCL knee tear/sprain 2.5 weeks ago from ski. Can walk with 1 crutch but have pain while bending knee. Should i be alarmed? Meniscus?

Maybe.: As long as it is an isolated mcl tear it will heal uneventfully. It could be a medial meniscus tear, though. A careful exam can usually distinguish between the two, but in some cases an MRI is needed to rule out meniscal injury. Pain with walking or bending can be seen with both. ...Read more
