For 3 weeks I've had a pink eye/sore throat virus. Pink eye was gone for a while but has come back full force. Is that normal? How much longer? : (

Have it checked: I think adenovirus when I hear of pink eye/throat issues. This virus can cause eye redness for up to 14 days in some. The virus basically can strip the thin top lining of the eye off leaving it vulnerable to secondary infection/pain. Antibiotics don't help but may be used to reduce a second infection. I would see an MD this week to see what the cause is. Good luck! ...Read more

Pink Eye: First you have to make sure it is Pink eye, there are a lot of other conditions that looks like a simple conjunctivitis.
Usually it is a simple infection and does not cause any problems or chronic conditions, when it is recurrent you need to make sure it is not dust allergy, or sun sensitivity to name a few so definitely see your doctor if its coming back,

See eye doctor: Typically pink eye does not linger for a month. You should see your eye doctor. You: You may have conjunctivitis. Do you use an eye lash curler? If you started using new mascara before the possible infection cleared, it could still spread. Maybe you don't have pink eye. Pink: Pink eyes are usually a consequence of viral infections. The approach of treating with antibiotics will not treat the condition, but may help prevent a secondary bacterial infection. The fact that the conditioned recurred and is associated with body rashes is suggestive of other causes. One additional consideration is allergies. If your son has a history of allergies then the steroid drops will benefit the eye condition but not clear the rash. I would continue to follow closely with the eye specialist and discuss the possibility of allergies. ...Read more

Taking z-pac for cold/cough and w/in 3 hrs developed pink eye. Used ofloxicin from prev condition and 12 hrs later hives red rash on back gone in 2 hr?

Virus vs reaction?: Most colds and coughs don't need antibiotics. You may well have a virus, and the Zpak will not speed your recovery if so. Unless the prescriber told you bacteria are likely present due to high fever or white count, or exam. Eye drops do not remain sterile after opened, and should be discarded. This is why! Check back with your doctor if symptoms get worse or do not get better. ...Read more
