Can a pinched nerve cause Numbness and weakness that comes and go on the right arm/hand and right leg/foot? Also, pain in the shoulder blade/bicep.
Yes: Numbness and weakness in the right upper and lower extremities may indicate nerve compression at the level of the spine. MRI and EMG could localize and prognosticate a compressive neuropathy and would give guidance to appropriate treatment options. Consult with a physical medicine and rehabilition specialist would be appropriate. ...Read more
Neck Shoulder Sprain F/age 62. NP at clinic said m spasm. 2 weeks later still inner nerve type quivering from neck to left outer upper bicep all night?
Spine consult: You need a referral to a spine surgeon for X-rays of your spine to rule out vertebral fracture common in your age group and also a bone spur that can irritate the spinal nerve running from your spine to your bicep=radiculopathy. SSRIs and gabapentin good for this pain but if you have weakness surgery may be indicated for a herniated disc or compressed nerve. Stay calm and see spine surgeon. ...Read more
Why would bicep not flex 2 weeks after shoulder replacement? Any explanation? Also still numb from elbow to thumb, painful nerves.
Musculocutaneous n.: The musculocutaneous nerve provides the nerve supply to the biceps muscle. If this was stretched and temporarily "stunned' during the shoulder replacement, this can explain the symptoms. The skin sensation from the elbow to the thumb comes from the "lateral cutaneous nerve of the forearm". This nerve is an extension of the musculocutaneous nerve, so this makes sense too. ...Read more

Is bicep tendonesis a successful surgery? As I'm 28 yrs old and am booked to have done cause pain in my shoulder
2nd opinion by D.O.: Whenever you're contemplating surgery for anything, including biceps tendinitis, it's great to get a second opinion to see another perspective of your condition. An osteopathic physician would be ideal for you to consult. S/he can provide a full workup and examination of your biceps, in relation to your entire body, to bring balance back into the equation. You may not even need the surgery. So it's valuable to get the second opinion. You can always postpone your surgery until you get the second opinion. ...Read more
Hi, I have a full thickness bicep tear at the shoulder. Is there usually swelling, discoloration & visually disformaties?
Yes : There is frequently swelling and bruising if the long head of the biceps tendon tore at the shoulder recently. The biceps muscle tends to ball up closer to the elbow called a Popeye deformity. The swelling and bruising will go away but the Popeye deformity will remain unless it is surgically corrected which isn't necessary unless there are other injuries like a rotator cuff tear. ...Read more

Pain in bicep when playing softball...shooting pains from fingers to shoulder when resting. What could this be?
Radiculopathy: There are a number of different potential causes, and I would not hesitate to be seen and evaluated. There is no muscle, tendon, or ligament that runs all the way from the shoulder to the fingers, but there are nerves that do. You may have a radiculopathy, which is an irritation of the nerves in the neck. In people that play softball, the brachial plexus can also cause similar symptoms. ...Read more

Had pain in shoulder for a few months. Hurt to teach up or out & now have pain in bicep with a small lump that's sensitive to touch. What could this be?
The shoulder is a complex joint, & many conditions/ injuries (rotator cuff injury, bursitits, tendonitis, labral pathology, etc). Can cause pain as described. The bicep pain coulld be something that developed secondary to any of the above, or the cause of pain altogether. I suggest a physician examine your shoulder to determine your best plan of care.
