Nerve (Definition)

The brain and spinal cord communicates with what is occurring in the internal organs and limbs by nerve fibers where are like electrical wires with insulation (myelin) and the "copper" (axon). Within brain and spinal cord these nerves connect to other nerves via synapses on both axons and dendrites. A nerve can carry information regarding sensations, and ...Read more

Right side of neck aches right two fingers feel numb could that be a pinched nerve?

Right side of neck aches right two fingers feel numb could that be a pinched nerve?

Yes: A pinched nerve in the neck most commonly causes pain, usually starting in the side/back of the neck and then radiating down the arm. Numbness in the fingers, hand, and forearm can also occur, as well as weakness in the arm. Not all patients have all three symptoms. The pattern of pain, numbness, and weakness can predict which nerve is being pinched. Your c6 nerve is likely involved. ...Read more

Think have pinched nerve in elbow from studding at desk too long. My hand and pinky finger have been numb for 2 days. What do I do?

May reverse: Avoid all leaning on elbow, and be protective. Take a daily B-100 complex. Also, try OTC ibuprofen or Aleve three times daily. If no rapid improvement over next 10-14 days, see your physician. This is likely to be temporary, but hard to predict. If starts worsening, such as more numbness, loss of hand strength, will need to act much faster. ...Read more

Pain in left arm and left shoulder. Arm feels numb with sharp pains down to elbow, causing nausea. Pinched nerve maybe? Or something more serious?

Pain in left arm and left shoulder. Arm feels numb with sharp pains down to elbow, causing nausea. Pinched nerve maybe? Or something more serious?

Possible Nerve Pinch: Sharp pain in the arm associated with numbness is often a symptom of a nerve pinch somewhere along the course of a nerve or nerves. Classically the nerve pinch itself does not cause nausea, but the consequential pain if significant enough can be associated with nausea. Such significant complaints should be evaluated by an appropriately trained health care professional. ...Read more

Probably not: At your age a heart attack is generally unlikely especially if you have another explanation for your symptoms (pinched nerve) but either way you should see your doctor to sort it out and maybe a neurologist if it turns out to be nerve pain. ...Read more

Pinched nerve in my shoulder, neck and armpit. The pain goes all the way to my hand and fourth finger. What can cause it and what is the treatment ?

Herniated disk?: Could be a ruptured disk in neck, especially since you've had the same symptoms before, which is typical. Did u get ant treatment(Tx) then? Place to start is w/ fam doc for pain meds & referral for MRI. steroids & PT would be initial Tx, unless weakness is present, in which case more urgent. Surgery may be necessary, but most resolve without. If persists or recurs, surgery more likely. . ...Read more

Which one is most likely to make only my left side neck, shoulder, arm, hand & leg numb & tingly a pinched nerve in back or neck? I have no pain.

Nerve impingement: These symptoms most likely arise in your neck/cervical spine. It can also arise from your brain from something like a stroke but this is less likely if the face is not involved. Nerve impingement should not be taken lightly. Any neurologic deficits such as these should be evaluated by a physician promptly. If you develop any functional loss or weakness that would represent an emergency. ...Read more
