Why would my podiatrist want to pin my daughters toe after a curly toe surgery?

Why would my podiatrist want to pin my daughters toe after a curly toe surgery?

Derotating Fix.: It is more than likely that the pin may be needed to hold the corrected toe in it's new position long enough for adequate post operative scarring to develop. This will offer the needed stability to better the chances for an acceptable corrective result.

I had surgery to pin a broken toe 6 months ago. I still can not wear any shoes apart from flip flops. Any suggestions on what to do?

I had surgery to pin a broken toe 6 months ago. I still can not wear any shoes apart from flip flops. Any suggestions on what to do?

F/U with Dr.: Let the Ortho Dr. (or Podiatric surgeon) know, as the toe should be better by now. Did you go through Physical therapy and work through pain meds to decrease inflammation and any swelling etc.-All these things may be important, top work through a little pain, then slowly get back "on your feet again." Good luck.

Talk to surgeon: Hi, 2 weeks is still fresh post-op. I would call the surgeon's office ans either ask to talk to her/him or get an office visit. The best person to answer your question is the surgeon who performed the procedure and is familiar with the surgical pathology encountered. Get well soon

What is foot surgery with pins or plates like?

What is foot surgery with pins or plates like?

Difficult Q: Wow! That question is pandoras box! As an experienced foot and ankle surgeon I am interpreting your question to be about some type of reconstruction. I will say that in general these procedures are successful....But... As I tell all my patients "the recovery is long! " foot surgery takes up to a year or more to fully recover from. If someone is telling you its no big deal get another opinio.

Healing nerves: When you have undergone a surgical procedure, it can take time for things to heal. The skin incision may be closed, but all the deep structures, such as nerves are still healing. In all likelihood, the circulation is ok. The "pins" definitely tell me nerves. It can take some time for this to subside. Swelling of the extremity could also cause these symptoms.

Can you do surgery for broken toes?

Can you do surgery for broken toes?

It depends...: It depends on the type and location of the fracture. Fractures usually need to be immobilized with a splint, cast, or rigid walking boot depending on the location of the injury. For a well aligned non displaced broken toe you may get by with walking with a rigid surgical shoe. Some fractures may require surgical management. Have you physician determine which course of treatment is best for you.
