Please call your Gyn: Heavy and/or prolonged menstrual bleeding is a common occurrence. In most cases it is due to hormonal changes and there is nothing physically wrong with the reproductive system. This is called Dysfunctional uterine bleeding. Less commonly a number of other conditions may be responsible. I'm a med student with previous pilonidal cystectomy 4 years ago. A new cyst has resurfaced with some ulceration and drainage. Should I be worried?
High recurrence rate: Recurrence rates for pilonidal cysts even after extensive excision are high. Preventative hygiene practices such as daily to twice daily washing with antibacterial soap (one of the very few reasons to use the stuff) or even use of a decolonization protocol with Chlorhexidine or very dilute bleach baths per your doc or surgeon's instruction can be helpful. ...Read more

Have you ever experienced someone develop chronic facial, arm and hand and leg swelling after a pilonidal cystectomy?
Leg swelling: There should be no relationship between having a pilonidal cystectomy and chronic swelling of the face, arms, hand and legs. This kind of swelling is usually due to an alleregic or systemic problem. You need a full evaluation as to the underlyijng cause of the swelling. A pilonidal cystectomy should not cause this. ...Read more

Just had stitches removed from a pilonidal cyst excision. The wound was not fully healed and one day later it won't stop bleeding. What can I do?
Here are some...: Minor bleeding of various degree is expected at this stage of healing. All what you have to do is flush the wound for cleansing, paint it with betadine solution, and place 4x4 gauze with some pressure as long as having no bleeding tendency. This wound takes time to heal - as long as 1-3 months depending on its size and personal healing ability. Of course, ask your surgeon as needed. ...Read more
A couple months ago, my pilonidal cyst scar got inflamed & started bleeding but healed in a week. This cycle keeps repeating every few weeks now.?
My pilonidal cyst won't stop bleeding, is there anything i can do until i can finally see my doctor?
Keep open: You actually want to keep the cyst open. Premature closure can lead to abscess. Unfortunately the area involved is sensitive. Usually keeping this area covered with a "feminine napkin" will provide ample coverage until fully evaluated by your doctor. Fever and increase bleeding warrants an er visit. ...Read more
My pilonidal cyst scar has cyclically been getting inflamed, bleeding, and healing every few weeks for a few months. What needs to be done to stop it?
What to do if the pilondal cyst partially popped...Its bleeding with pus and i'm pretty sure it is infected, but the cyst is still there. ?
Depressed: The scar will be low in the abdomen above the pubis, much like a c-section scar. Most likely it will be depressed. Occasionally it may be a thin line but to minimize a scar fine sutures and a good tension relieving subcutaneous layer of slowly absorging sutures needs to be used. If poor healing, bad tension and or an infection result the scar will be wide and need revision. ...Read more

Difficult cyst: Sometimes the findings at surgery are more complicated that what was expected. The doctor may have encountered dense adhesions so that tissue planes were distorted and removal of the ovary may have been safer than removal of the cyst. The cyst may have replaced the ovary and been stuck to it so the only way to fully remove the cyst was by removing the ovary. Or perhaps cancer was suspected. ...Read more

Don't worry: I haven't had a cystectomy but i've done hundreds. If that's all that is needed, you will have a complete recovery. Should the "cyst" be a tumor of some kind, it might require removal of the ovary. I don;t know your age or circumstances but you should do well. ...Read more

Why oophorectomy instead of cystectomy abd it neasured 6.2✖️4.4cm last week its probably getting smaller anyway?
Depends on age/size:
SOmetimes if a large cyst is encountered and you are concerned about a malignancy, you take the ovaries out to get a pathologist to review it as a whole. If you take bits and pieces out, you can spread malignancy in your abdomen and worsen prognosis
In younger women, sometimes, preservation of the ovaries is attempted because risk of ovarian cancer is low and there is need for ovaries for fertilit ...Read more
