Ouch: With your other conditions, I would be sure you had herpes, and not contact dermatitis, before treating it as herpes. When untreated, the outbreak usually lasts for a couple of weeks. With modern, anti-HSV therapies, such as acyclovir, the outbreak can either be stopped, or shortened significantly in duration to 3-5 days, with much more mild symptoms. ...Read more

Second opinion: We aren't able to access the pictures but there is a great app that may be able to help you get a diagnosis without being seen in person by a dermatologist. The app is called VisualDX and is one of the best, if not the best out there. Many clinicians, including myself, use it. Just snap a photo and it gives you a list of possible diagnoses. Good luck! ...Read more
Herpes: The virus starts to multiply when it gets into the skin cells. The skin becomes red and sensitive, and soon afterward, one or more blisters or bumps appear. The blisters first open, scab over, and then heal as new skin tissue forms. During a first outbreak, the area is usually painful and may itch, burn or tingle. Flu-like symptoms are also common. These include swollen glands, headache, muscle. ...Read more
Herpes is unlikely: This is unlikely to be herpes, which doesn't cause simple "red dots", but blisters that become pimple-like or open sores, then heal with scabs. Also, initial herpes usually occurs at site where inoculated, i.e. generally at sites of maximum friction during sex, such as labia, vaginal opening, etc. Recurrent oubreaks can be on thighs, but rarely first infection. Despite what you can find on line, HSV idoes not cause neurological symptoms that persist more than 1-2 days, immediately before an obvious outbreak. Since previously brought on by leg position, almost certainly this is compression of a nerve in the upper leg or nerve root exiting the spine. It could be the start of more serious problems; see a doctor. ...Read more
Herpes: Genital herpes is a chronic sexually transmitted infection caused by the herpes simplex virus (hsv). Historically, hsv-2 accounted for a majority of genital infections; however, hsv-1, which usually infects the orolabial area, now accounts for up to 50% of first-episode cases. Inflamed, chafed or irritated skin can be targets. However, since Herpes is less common on normal skin, see your doctor for confirmation. ...Read more
