Feelings & fears: Agree with dr. Friedlander that considering sexual relationships is a big part of growing up. Many people are anxious & worried about this, even if they don't say so. Also, learning about your own sexual preferences is momentous as well. Not everyone is heterosexual, and some need time to realize their own natures. Working with a therapist may help you through this important life passage. ...Read more

Punch biopsey 4 stitches out 12 days ago. Mid 2 pinched bad while in. Pulled an ugly new crease on arm that's still there. Killed pinched skin, that came off after stitches-made wider scar. What to do?

See your md: I would let the doctor that did the biopsy know and have him/her take a look. Usually giving it time and keeping it out if the sun will fix a lot of these small issues. Likely the crease will even out, but let your MD determine what if anything needs to be done ...Read more

I got punched in the nose today and there is huge patch of redness, I was wondering when will the redness go away and if it will scar? Thanks.

Fine: After a punch/trauma, redness and swelling are very common and are most often self limiting and go away within a week or so. Scarring should not occur from a punch that has simply caused redness. Good luck. ...Read more

I had tommyjohn surgery on elbow 8yrs ago. If I throw punch during boxing it hurts as bad as when I got the injured briefly. Am I breaking scar tissue?

Re-evaluation: If you feel pain at the same area as your prior injury, it should be re-examined by the orthopedist. Tommy john surgery is a complex repair of the ligament and pain should be taken as a sign of a potential re-injury. I would not assume it is scar tissue. ...Read more

Hi, I got punch in the face 3 weeks ago and it cut the skin under my eye. I still have a 1-2cm red mark on my face, is this a scar?

Yes, but will fade: Any cut will heal by creating a scar line then according to skin type the scar fades away in some degree or totally. Eyelid skin is very forgiving and if your cut was on your eyelid skin, there is a good chance that will fade gradually over time. ...Read more

Will I need stitches after a skin biopsy? The doctor said he was going to do a punch biopsy and it would make a little hole in my skin. Will I need stitches? Will it leave a scar?

Probably: If a skin punch biopsy is 3 mm to 6 mm in diameter, it will be closed with sutures. If a 2 mm biopsy is taken, it can be left to heal in without sutures. The marks from a biopsy usually fade significantly over a few months. ...Read more

Is my boil scar normal? It's been months since its healed. Pic: http://imgur. Com/x9tjmev

Looks Normal: As injured skin heals, the body creates inflammation to do so which means fresh blood goes to the area and with it, many kinds of healing factors and cells. One type is called melanocytes which carry our skin pigment melanin. A healing occurs, these cells get deposited in he area and give it the brownish coloration you see. Over time, there will be some fading as the injury matures. ...Read more

What kind of scar will I have from a nose job? I was thinking about gettng my nose fixed and I wanted to see some pictures of what the scars will look like? Will there be swelling? How long will the swelling last?

What kind of scar will I have from a nose job? I was thinking about gettng my nose fixed and I wanted to see some pictures of what the scars will look like? Will there be swelling? How long will the swelling last?

Rhinoplasty: Rhinoplasty may be performed via an open (external) approach or closed (endonasal) approach. The open rhinoplasty is performed via a small incision in the columella, the skin between the nostrils. The incision generally heals very well and becomes unnoticeable over time. The closed rhinoplasty is performed with internal incisions only, so nothing is visible on the outside. Both approaches work well and appropriate for many rhinoplasty patients. More important than the rhinoplasty approach, is the specific procedures your plastic surgeon performs in your rhinoplasty. Generally, open rhinoplasty has more swelling that lasts longer as compared to endonasal rhinoplasty.

Lastly, other incisions your rhinoplasty surgeon may use regardless of open vs. Endonasal rhinoplasty may include (1) nostril incisions to remove extra skin and narrow the nose, and (2) osteotomy incisions to help reshape the nasal bones.

Only after a comprehensive evaluation can a rhinoplasty specialist help determine appropriate options for you. Best of luck.
