Picc Line (Overview)

A picc line is a peripherally inserted central catheter. It is a long IV that is typically placed in a large vein in the upper arm. The tip of the catheter usually ends in the junction between a large vein (superior vena cava) and the upper chamber of the heart on the right side (right atrium). Picc lines are necessary for administering certain medications and allow for blood draws.
